Help! Son wants to build a gaming PC and I am clueless

OK, I'm about to get to the motherboard and take some pics, I'm nervous as I know the more I mess the higher the risk of something going wrong.
We took it super slow when building and I was extra careful. I will be devastated if I've messed it up somehow

How do I add pictures to a post?

OK, pics of setup and motherboard.. is that a bent pin top right?

In the first picture of the CPU socket pins 2nd row down from the top , 7th pin in from the right there something shiny or a different colour than the rest can you look at it closer I can't quite tell what it is.

Does it look like the rest.

Just discovering how hard it is to take clear pictures of pins!

I've uploaded the best shots I can get, it looks messed up to me

Are the pins supposed to be stood up straight? It looks to me like they are all angled towards the centre of the board itself

That 1 pin does look bent unfortunately. Assuming that's the fault...

From what I can see it looks like VSS/ground (B35?) AM5 pinout, so might work fine (it's probably shorting something else out as it's bent all the way back right now). You CAN bend them back, carefully, sometimes without them breaking.

Likely classed as user damage though so is there any obvious signs of damage/burn to the back of the CPU at that point? Any other pins look bent?
Some places offer installation insurance, if you got that then maybe start looking into it. Preferably you could get access to alternative parts just to confirm but I'm assuming that's not possible? Whereabouts are you?

It does look bent back in you most recent pictures, you can try the bend it forward and align it to the rest using a couple of pins or needles. Loads of videos on YouTube on bent pins.

@Vince is the man who can often fix this but it's something you would have to discuss with him, he's tagged in .

I don't think I've got a steady enough hand for this. I've given it a go but don't think I've got it right.
Turned it all on and still no signal to monitor.
Tried taking out one stick of ram and changing slots and now the red light is on CPU instead of DRAM.

I'm going to have to buy a new motherboard aren't I?

I believe that PSU is passive at low temps so so dont worry about that.

As for the board, err... it's very likely to be the problem, so unless you can get the pin back in place you'll need to either buy another board or get it fixed by someone else.

I'd be tempted to say if it's a ground pin it might be worth trying removing it entirely, but I'd be interested to hear what others think of that idea.

If you do buy another board then it does still have value if you whack it on ebay as a spares or repair, with only 1 seemingly bent pin someone else will take a chance on it.

OK, no idea wtf I did or why, but it's now booting and i can see on the display, RGBs on fabs are also working, however PSU fan stopped spinning after 20 seconds.
Only got one stick of RAM in though, the ie that isn't in seems to have a bit of a gap where it should join at the top.

The boot screen is saying

Press <DEL> to enter setup.

New CPU installed, fTPM/PVP NV corrupted or fTPM/PSP NV structure changed.

Press Y to reset fTPM, if you have BitLocker or encryption enabled, the system will not boot without a recovery key.

Press N to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot, fTPM will NOT enable in a new CPU, you can swap. Ack to the old CPU to recover TPM related keys and data.

What do I do ?

What do I do ?

The PSU fan will spin down after initial boot until needed/under load.

You want to press DEL to enter setup, your Windows loaded USB stick will do most of the work for you.

It might have been a RAM issue, remember that boot (memory training) can take a long time as I mentioned previously, that's going to happen again if you try adding the second stick to see if it really was the issue.

It could be that you fixed the pin issue, or even that something wasn't connected properly or a short that you've fixed without realising while taking things apart and putting them back together.

I'm actually wondering if you've been sent a pre-owned motherboard, was the box fully sealed etc when you got it?

Ah thank you.

Have tried pressing delete.. nothing is happening, keyboard is lit up, but pressing delete does nothing.

No idea re preowned, it was from an online store and purchased as brand new, but it had no shrinkwrap and no sticker seal/tape ..hmmm

New build the message is a standard bios message on first boot so you need to press y

I have a VERY happy child!
Got it all booted, installed windows and its working a treat!

Still only one stick of RAM in there, not sure how to approach solving that. For now though, he cannot stop smiling

Thank you all so much for your patience, helps and support to date. I am overwhelmed by your kindness and over the moon to see our son so happy
