Help Team OcUK beat some Russians…

1. I can't be bothered.
2. I don't know what it is.
3. I thought it made my pc run slower.
4. I thought it was for geeks only.
5. I don't think my PC is powerful enough.
6. I don't think I can run it on my computer.
7. I don't think I can because have a Mac.
8. I don't have time
9. This sounds like house work to me...
10. The chicks might not dig me.

A decent poll methinks :)

I can't help thinking that with every bit of exposure to pimpage threads, the resistance of the GD masses to enlightenment only increases. Bit of a catch-22... :(

It's so true though, I cannot think of one decent reason why people shouldn't run Folding, all the above myths are... well, myths.

Thought of another one.
-Pc gets too hot/noisy/uses too much power.
Solution: Sort out noise and cooling, or run at a low cpu percentage.

Is it worth putting this on the end of the quick and easy quide?
Folding myths and solutions. That way it would end up in the sticky in the dc forum. I won't make it an actual part of the quick and easy guide tho.

some more myths for you...

  • I thought you'd need to run your computer 24/7 - nope, obviously it will help your production but the client writes regular save points and the deadlines are long enough that most computers can still participate even if they are a bit old or not on much
  • It's all just pretend isn't it? They haven't actually found anything have they? - Although it's quite theoretical there have been many interesting and useful findings over the years that Folding@Home has been running
  • Why should I spend money doing research for some drugs company then charge me for what's produced? - Folding is run as a non-profit project and all findings are made publically available through the folding website and publications

just a few off the top of my head that I've been asked before

Technically people on an enthusiasts forum shouldnt have cooling issues! :D

Actualy, more people have due to overclocking.
Anyone with noise/heat problems, you know where the overclocking and cooling forum is... ;)

Edit:

Just to add to that, if the medical reaserch side of it doesn't interest you for that reason, its still worth doing to help your team and your forum and for the competative side.

Maybe you guys should have your own mIRC channel. You'd build up a fair little community off the boards too with any luck.

#Team-OcUK (Quakenet) if anyone wants to join.

Unless you've got your own channel already...

We already have our own forum, and i don't like the 'them and us' attitude. Its 'the ocuk team' not 'those wierdo's over there...' ;)

Noo, I mean people off the boards will be free to venture into the channel and if the people are in there, they'd be able to ask in real-time to set up etc...

With the Speed of billys replies it is almost like real time in the Folding forum.

I posted a thread once and he had the exact same time as my Original post

I dunno, I find that IRC channels just get deserted eventually. FAH is very well established and there are few problems that arent covered on the website, in the FAH wikis and on here.

All the same, VeNT's talking me through set up atm, so you'll have me folding too :p

I'm in that channel, so it's there if anyone else feels the need to come idle too ;)
