Help! Think I'm being scammed!

Still it doesnt help you if he accepts it taped it and claims that you sent him a bit of plastic or whatever.

Auction Site / Paypal really need to do more to protect the sellers from getting the shaft in cases like this.

its more in favour of the buyer these days

Urgh, don't say this, I'm about to use a courier myself.

Odd question, not worth making my own thread, but when the postal address says "The Vale of Glamorgan", can I shorten it to just "Glamorgan"?

Vale of Glamorgan is one area. I use to live in Mid Glamorgan, now live in South Glamorgan.

I always use exactly what is written on the paypal address.

Not a bad little scam he has going there apart from the fact you have the weight of the package from when it was sent!

I would have waited for a response from him but reckon he is just waiting the 10 days or whatever it is before he's allowed to post a Paypal claim following an auction ending.

You should ask him if the package was open when he received it. If so then WHY did he accept it as he is then saying that parcel force opened the package.

If he says no it was sealed that is why I signed for it and tries to blame you then you can get him on the weight of the package as you sent it when weighed. Just don't give him the exact weight otherwise he can add stuff to the package to make it weigh heavier.

Any normal person would probably side with you after that evidence but alas Paypal are awful so I feel bad for you :( Never heard of this scam before so next time I sell anything I will be sure to photograph the item in the box or on a scale before I seal and send it!

I always photograph the serial numbers before selling stuff nowadays incase they receive it and try to pull a fast one by sending a different faulty product back saying it was broken in the post. Most computer parts aren't covered for damage in the post but for loss only. Cameras included if you look at the small print of some couriers insurance! They won't ask you what the product is when you buy the insurance, but try to claim and you would be screwed as I found out when I sent an SLR camera to someone a few months ago....

I prefer if possible to never rely on the postal service these days  I reckon whilst planning his scam he didn't think about the weight factor so if you mentioned you know the exact weight he would probably fold - or he would just get the weight of the camera from the internet and try it on. Who knows.

Horror stories like this have put me off using eBay. It's a shame such people ruin the once excellent resource that is eBay.

If I were you I would get the money into my bank account ASAP and shut down my PayPal account otherwise you will be fighting a losing battle.

I assume ParcelForce will be wanting to weigh it though, which is the only glimmer of hope I have at the moment

If he claims that it was ducting in there and you have the pics he sent of that then if he does add to the weight surely you then have evidence that he's lieing as there'll be more than just the ducting he claims was there when he recieved it

Have people no shame these days? Honestly, the length's people will go to to shaft one another for a few quid is becoming ridiculous! It's this type of thing that lead me to shut my eBay and Paypal accounts completely just over a year ago.

Hope it gets sorted soon anyway mate.

If it was me personally I would drive across the country and confront the person about it, but im irrational like that and that's probably not what this situation needs.

You need to get hold of a physical person at PF and nail down what their procedure is in a case like this, and if it can be adapted to your situation. The people where you posted the camera who signed your form should be an immeasureable help.

Just hope you can get it sorted dude

Update to this - he filed a complaint through Ebay (not PayPal).

I've still not heard anything back from ParcelForce so I escalated the complaint and explained to Ebay that I'd got proof and witnesses of me posting the right thing, that it'd bee tampered with when he got it, his flatmate had signed for it, the weights didn't match and he'd refused to contact the police to help speed up the claim.

They refunded him anyway.

Thankfully it's Ebay who's given the refund, not me. My PayPal balance has stayed the same and the resolution says "Ebay has refunded this item, you do not need to take any further action"

So when ParcelForce finish processing it technically I'll be £250 up

:D
