Help - Want to move back to android from iphone 4s

Hey Nexus,

It went between two and three bars on the GS3 and it does currently have OK signal at home!

If the HOS had signal as good, definately would have been my first choice. As it was I had a lecture that I could not return a phone again... so the GS3 pipped it!

Thanks for the black stuff, I'm errr learning. I'm yet to pay for the other bits required but its so much better than the stock samsung stuff with that apex launcher :)

Nice, glad to hear everything is ok regarding the signal with the GS 3 :)

It is a shame that HTC didn't get this signal issue improved/fixed much sooner, ruining the 1S for a lot of people on XDA :(

No problem :)

hey mate,

yeah on the screen and it's been sat in a HTC case the whole time so I've no idea how :( its not that visible but you know it's there if that makes sense?

Unlucky :(

I don't think GG 2 is as tough as normal GG, think Samsung have sacrificed some toughness to achieve the thinness of GG 2, far too many people reporting scratches on their GS 3 screens.

Check rainforest site or ebay for some screen protectors (if you want them that is), IMO they make virtually no difference to the quality of the screen, only the feel. They only look **** if you do a **** job of applying them :p

Take your time when applying them and the best way to apply screen protectors is after you or someone else has had a nice long hot shower and kept the door closed as the steam works wonders with dust :D

They are well worth it to protect that lovely screen ;)

I've honestly got no idea how it got there, and it's really bloody annoying as it's been in a case the whole time! I will apply screen protector when I get home and hope I can't see it :)

Well I've just got back from work, polished the screen to oblivion, slapped a screen protector on it and I can't see anything apart from a speck of dust underneath at one edge (woo ;) )

Battery life so far looks to be terrible! 67% left 7h 48mins on battery. Screen on time of 44 mins 38 seconds!

Oh dear, that's not quite right! Post up your battery details.

Settings > Battery

The main screen, the usage graph, and the screen time (standard procedure).

Screenshot is power + home button.

Hm. Something is keeping the phone awake on and off quite frequently, which isn't great, but I'm not sure that's the only problem.

The signal seems fairly bad though, and that will impact battery drain, with a good signal it would be all green instead of mostly yellow/brown.

Is the brightness on auto?

For now, restart it, set the brightness to auto, charge it to full, and see how that goes.

Also, you could try try setting the networks to GSM only, which should help with any battery drain coming from the signal switching between 3G and 2G. (Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Network mode > GSM Only)

Hey mate,

Brightness is on auto, phone is set up as samsung intended apart from apex launcher, and a few bits that nexus suggested to get!

I also have whatsapp, ebay, facebook and the go sms pro app on the go I guess. (Not that i've signed into facebook at all!)

I'm wondering whether I should try just using samsungs default theme and apps!

There will be virtually no difference in battery life using apex and 3rd party widgets etc. over samsung/touchwiz stuff (unless it is like facebook widgets syncing every 1 hour etc.)

The weak signal is the big problem and maybe something else.

Get better battery stats on and see what is causing the drain.

Time I tried a few different network sims I think. Orange gets cracking signal at home, but pretty pants signal where I currently work!

Shame voda are the only network to have 'sure signal ' tech

Yeah, you can try tweaking stuff etc. but I honestly can't see you getting much better signal when you have very weak signal at home.

The only thing you can do is what Robbo said, switch to GSM only mode instead of WCDMA/GSM only and WCDMA mode, even if you're connected to wifi.

Basically GSM is a G/E data connection and WCDMA is the 3G/H connection, so should only be enabled when you need a fast mobile data connection.

I've always had awful signal here, if I can get signal with the voda micro sim assuming I can find it i'll go with them!
