Help ! - Why do I always have bad luck with overclocking !?

I've now bought a E2160 some weeks ago because of how easy they were to overclock are reach 3Ghz, not my case, it cant even reach 2Ghz !

I have given it 1.45v and put it on 225FSB and it still refuses to boot, tried all the voltages in between as well,

if I leave the FSB alone on 200, and just change the vcore, then it boots, but the temperature is high, about 43 idle.

I just done a heatsink reseat, and still not good enough, if not worse.

Its been the same when I had my other system with a E6300 with a P5N-E, it never went past 2.5Ghz, just temperature got too high !

I dont know what to do anymore, i specially bought this CPU to overclock it, im ready to give up overclocking all together and in future, just buy a damn cpu that does 3Ghz stock !

Sorry for the rant, but I dont know what to do anymore...

Hopefully you guys can shed some light, I aint excellent at this stuff, and might be missing something all this time.
 
Should the fsb:dram be adjust up ? I woudnt know what to do here, or what to look for, but I will look for fsb:dram and see.

I cant boot on 225FSB, only before that.

Have you set the correct memory voltage? And are you running 2x2gb or 4x1gb?

Right, I done that.

I can't find the ratio option, unless its under a different option named differently, there is a lot of RAM options, a lot of timing and lateny options, many variations...

I also noticed in the bios, like it has been said in here, when I increase the FSB for the CPU, the FSB of the RAM changes, think its currently 840 or 860.

I have pushed it to 210FSB x 9 = 1890MHz.

I've noticed in core temp, that the CPU is clocking down to 1260MHz, and is affecting the temps im trying to monitor...

Right, so what else do I go onto change now...

Do I just continue to up the FSB for the CPU, mind I have found the DRAM ratio yet...

EDIT: Been back in and noticed the DRAM overvoltage control, I chose the +0.1v option. Am I right in thinking, that my ram is now running on 1.9v, because on default the motherboard is giving 1.8v to the ram ? I also took a read at the reviews for my ram, and people are running it up to about 2.0v. correct ?

I also noticed the system ram multiplier, has that go anything to do with the dram ratio ?

If your memory is hitting 840 then that means that you're on the x4.0 memory multiplier. You'll have to locate the System Memory Multiplier option and set it as low as possible (try to find x2.0, but you may have to select x2.4 or x2.5).

You will get nowhere til you have dropped the memory multiplier.

Thanks for the help here m8, I feel like im beginning to get somewhere, right while I posted my edit up there ^ and then reading your reply, you said about the system memory multiplier, i went in the bios again and looked for 2.0 or 2.5, not there, only 3.33 and 4.0. seeing as you said set it as low as possible, I chose 3.33. the FSB for the ram then went down to 716 irrc.

Nope, 3.33 is the lowest there... I even went in again to check above and below the auto setting like you said... I was thinking, maybe there are more options with a bios update ? I wouldnt know..

Think I had F2 on it, I have now updated to F7 painlessly, and now as we said there are more options !, there is now the option for 2.66 in the system memory multiplier ! Woo ! There many well be more options in the later bios versions..., but will rather wait till they out of beta.

Next steps ?
 
Finally, I have successfully booted with 225MHz FSB, running ok so far.

EDIT: Ok, should I set it at +0.2v then ?
 
Right, set it up +0.3v.

Pushed up the FSB too now, running on 280FSB, just over 2.5GHz, nice.

When should I look at upping the CPU voltage?

EDIT: Now on 300FSB , 2.7GHz. I've seen that the memory speed is now on 800Mhz, it can go higher and be ok right ? I've seen in the reviews of my ram that someone has it on 940 iirc.

probably worth letting orthos or similar run for 30 mins or so check the temps and see if its stabl-ish give yourself an idea of where you are then up the FSB a bit more and do the same... if it fails the 30 min orthos then start upping vcore

Ahh ok, will do that now. Should I do stress test for just the CPU or the both the cpu and ram ?

Well, chose that anyway cause didnt want to wait for replies :p

Its still ok after 11mins so far..

and thats on 2.7Ghz

Oh and the temp is 62/63 Load, thats with the stock intel cooler


EDIT:, Well a 31min test passed ! time for more FSB !

Well, I cant seem to get the system to boot any further when I push it to 310FSB, I took the cpu voltage up a notch and still didnt boot, tried all the way up to 1.35v and still didnt boot... ?:confused:

@thefishdube: Its on the stock voltage of 1.31250v
