Help ! - Why do I always have bad luck with overclocking !?

Yeah you'll need to set it to the correct voltage for your memory (it starts at 1.8v, so 2.0v would be +0.2v etc).

Finally, I have successfully booted with 225MHz FSB, running ok so far.

EDIT: Ok, should I set it at +0.2v then ?

Depends on which OCZ memory you have.

What is your CPU voltage at? It shouldn't need more than 1.35v at the most atm.

Right, set it up +0.3v.

Pushed up the FSB too now, running on 280FSB, just over 2.5GHz, nice.

When should I look at upping the CPU voltage?

EDIT: Now on 300FSB , 2.7GHz. I've seen that the memory speed is now on 800Mhz, it can go higher and be ok right ? I've seen in the reviews of my ram that someone has it on 940 iirc.

probably worth letting orthos or similar run for 30 mins or so check the temps and see if its stabl-ish give yourself an idea of where you are then up the FSB a bit more and do the same... if it fails the 30 min orthos then start upping vcore

Ahh ok, will do that now. Should I do stress test for just the CPU or the both the cpu and ram ?

Just the CPU atm.

Well, chose that anyway cause didnt want to wait for replies :p

Its still ok after 11mins so far..

and thats on 2.7Ghz

Oh and the temp is 62/63 Load, thats with the stock intel cooler

EDIT:, Well a 31min test passed ! time for more FSB !

May I just say well played Cob for helping out with this one?! It's what makes these boards great! :)

Well, I cant seem to get the system to boot any further when I push it to 310FSB, I took the cpu voltage up a notch and still didnt boot, tried all the way up to 1.35v and still didnt boot... ?

@thefishdube: Its on the stock voltage of 1.31250v

These E2XXX CPU's will take a bit more voltage than that. I've needed up to 1.45v in the past to get up to 3.4Ghz.

As long as the temps are ok, voltage up to that point should do no harm.

What is the voltage shown in CPU-Z when under load?

EDIT: Sometimes you also get 'FSB Holes' where the mobo won't boot at 315mhz for instance, but is fine on the same settings at 330mhz. A 650i Ultra motherboard I had was like that.

Heres a screenshot of whats going on...

I know I only ran it 1 min test, but it was to show it under load

So what voltage is that in the bios?

Looks like you've got v-droop. (The difference between what voltage you enter in the bios vs what is actually getting to the chip?) That's my very un-technical explanation by the way!

The VID of that CPU (what it was set to run at) is 1.3125v so currently it's getting less if the CPU-Z info is correct.

It will most likely just need a bit more v-core, say 1.4v as a starter?

I presume that's the stock cooler?

You've got a way to go yet before the temps are anything critical, but clearly most people are more comfortable with a lower temp than that. Case cooling ok?

Bear in mind that Orthos stresses your CPU far more than any application is likely to.

An aftermarket cooler if you haven't got one already might be the next step. Something like the Freezer 7 Pro?

To be fair, it sounds like you've got the hang of this overclocking lark now, so it's just a case of balancing voltage/overclocks vs heat/stability from here on in. At some point you'll find the limit, but at least you've come a long way since your 1st post! :)
