Recently the RAID 0 array consisting of 2 Samsung F3 320 Gb failed due to one of the disks packing up.

Last night I took the broken one out intending to use the good one on its own. So I changed the BIOS to AHCI and booted off the Vista CD. However when it got to the choose the disk screen it could not see the disk. I changed the BIOS to IDE but got the same result.

So I then used the caddy I have to attached the disk to a laptop and did a quick format. However I can still not see it in the vista install.

Am I missing a special step that I need to do as it was part of a RAID 0 array or is this disk faulty as well? The RAID control panel was only indicating that one had an issue.

This is in my other machine which is based on a Q9450 and an Asus P5Q Deluxe.

Yes I am using the first two normal ports on the Intel Controller rather than the dedicated RAID ones.

Yes. It shows in the BIOS when AHCI and IDE are selected.

I have also tried a different SATA cable in a differnt SATA Port.

Change the BIOS setting back into RAID mode and go into the Intel RAID BIOS (CTRL-I). If I recall correctly there's an option to remove a drive from thinking it's part of an array in there, which you should select.
Once it's unconfigured you should be able to change back to AHCI mode and see the drive.

UPDATE

Thanks for the info Zarf that was the solution. But I would have thought that the marker or whatever would have been cleared when I did the quick format when I had it attached to my laptop via a usb cable.
