help

recently i upgraded my custom pc from vista to windows 7 and now it will sudenly freeze and i will not be able to move the mouse or any keyboard keys work

what is the solution to this problem i have run a check disk with no luck

what hardware specs?
what software are you running?
was it an 'upgrade' or a fresh install? -even MS recommend a fresh install

If it's just freezing I would tend to think it was a GFX issue, but I don't think there are too many diagnostics for a freeze.

the work was backed up as i was runing windows 7 fine from the release date just literaly in the last few days it has started it and the work i need is less than a week old so i aint had time to back it up

specs are a dual core 2.2ghz intel
4 gig ram
7900gs
asrock mb
sata 500gb hd
sata 150gb hd

Windows freeze is almost certainly driver related, ensure you have the latest drivers for absolutely everything - check the motherboard bios (be careful if you flash it), chipset drivers, graphics and sound card drivers, any extra cards such as a SATA controller card, network drivers, mouse, monitor (if required).

My freezing issue turned out to be an out of date motherboard bios (meaning the hard-drive controllers were out of date) but this has not been the case for everyone.

Edit: Make sure you get the drivers relevant to your Win7 version, i.e. 32bit or 64bit. If no Win7 drivers are available, try Vista drivers.

Go to the manufacturer's websites and download the most recent drivers for your devices. I.e. Nvidia for graphics, motherboard manufacturer for chipset and bios etc.

There are programs that will find drivers for you but quite a few have been known to contain spyware, best to just get them yourself...

What antivirus are you running?

I'd use the one called Microsoft Security Essentials, crap like AVG just creates problems

was happening to me the other day.... turns out it was most probably GFX.
i also had 32bit installed thinking it was 64bit and installed 64bit gfx drivers :-(

now on 64bit and seems to be fine, except the damn ati drivers for 5770 still dying now and then.

so i'd go for gfx. - does it do it after pressing 'Print Screen' ?

im running norton 2009

and i think i have found the problem my keyboard it lights up and everything but none of the buttons work i have got the latest drivers but nothing its a razer trantular

the gfx is all up to date

Do you have an old keyboard you can use, one that won't require drivers?
That would at least allow you to tell if the keyboard is causing the problem.

Agreed, download Microsoft Security Essentials, it's totally free and very light on system resources...

P.S. Just remember to turn Windows own Firewall back on ;)

okay i have used a old ps2 keyboard i had lying around and that is working fine with no problems

the razer keyboard works fine right uptill windows boots then all i get is the lights lighting up and nothing everytime i install the drivers it says they have installed however if i remove the keyboard and then reinsert it is says searching for drivers and then the drivers failed any one can help as i hope it aint my keyboard as it cost a lot like thanks
