well i was sitting playing crysis and all of a sudden my computer shuts down and would'nt turn on, so i left if for and 30 minutes in case of overheating and when i did, there was a bang and some sparks came outta the power supply, i was wondering if this would have caused any damage to any of my other components ? and i dont have a spare power supply lying around to try it.

Your PSU is most probably dead, the only way you can test your other components is to try use another power supply (this time preferably from a well known, good and reliable manufacturer.)
Personally I wouldn't touch that power supply again, because if it hasn't killed your components this time, it probably will the next. Good luck and I hope your components still work :)

Stating the obvious here but I think your PSU has blown, what make / model is it. I would say the best thing to do is to buy a new PSU from a quality brand, such as XFX, Corsair, or OCZ, plug it in and hope the old one has not fried anything.

Had that happen with two corsair hx620s in two machines :(

I use Enermax now.

To answer your question, it could have damaged components, but they could also be fine, have to hope for the best!

I had this happen to my G7 also after just over 2 years of use but mine caused no damage also check the power cable and see if the fuse is blown there and if it is it will probably be fine

How much power are you using? You don't need 800w if you are using 500w.

Also, are you mad? Learn from your mistake and pay what it costs to get a decent one, it's the most important part of a stable system!

Anther cheap PSU goes bang, when will people learn that PSU's aren't all about the wattage rating. The PSU is the most important part of your PC, buy a quality one!

There's a very strong chance some of your other components will be damaged. Cheap PSU's do not have the protection circuitry that the quality ones do. Fingers crossed you are lucky.

You'd probably be fine with 500Watt but those 2 above are 600Watt as they are only £2 more expensive then their 500Watt variants.

If you want cheap but a reasonable make so not quite as risky as before:

I would personally recommend the first one though.
