Here we go again..

regardless of the car, in this year alone, car owners will have paid, on average, an extra £400-500 to cover up this governments mistakes, as they continue to lie about inflation and the state the nation as an economy is in. theres nothing we can do about it, as people will just pay it regardless, its just so damn annoying. :(

we are too small a nation to have a significant effect on global warming, so why should we pay higher rates than those of the poluting kings that are america and china. :(

On one of the latest Police Camera action episodes they stated that the CO2 coming out the back of cars accounted for 22% of the uk's CO2.

I didn't think it was close to that!

They're doing that to bring trade into the country that will be many multiples of that, it’s a smart move. Northern Rock on the other hand, I have different feelings about.

But then they can afford snazzy cars like the NANO and their road tax isn't going up as they are living off our hefty donations! :D

But yeh, I understand why they are doing it. We will get more trade from them for warships etc

It is worth noting that oil prices are currently at their lowest point for about 2 months. Yet fuel remains high.

no because we all know that they put the prices up as soon as barrel price goes up, then do not lower it when the barrel price drops because the fuel was actually bought a year ago.... what rubbish, how they are allowed to carry on doing this is beyond me.

They don't pay tax over there, well some people do, but its a tiny %. Plus as soon as they get money, they buy gold, their culture measures you on your gold. They don't get ISA's and put money into things like the Western World. It’s a developing country.

Utterly depressing, but as usual the British public will just stand by and take it up the poo-pipe :(

The government are just a bunch of money grabbing gits, I thought this was well established by now. They know there's no alternative to cars, hence they are just milking their cash cow while the greenies stand by and cheer and claim it's for the good of the enviroment, which is, of course, a load of dingos kidneys, then get in their 2cv's and beetles with horrific emmisions and smog off into the distance...

So, so true :(

:( If fuel goes up too much my gf will start again with her silly idea of her driving my car the 6 mile round trip to the park and ride and me putting up to 70 miles a day on her 1.4 Polo to save money :(

As much as it pains me to chuck fuel into my car at stupid prices, i'm not willing to drive around in some 1ltr pos with no toys just to save a few quid.

On the run to work i get around 28 - 30mpg, i used to get 40mpg out of my 1.2 clio.

For me its not worth the cost of running a second car to save 10mpg.

If the difference is 25mpg to 50mpg+ and the additional depreciation of an extra 900 miles a month on one car over splitting the mileage over two?

It's not the right solution for everyone, but it certainly can make sense

If its going to hurt the value of a performance car aka something fast and petrol and if you can get double the mpg then i would agree, but in my situation as of yet its not :)

What makes you think that? Crude prices would need to double before we'd see prices like that at the pump.

Sorry, a typo, meant 130p.

Assuming about 112p at the moment, another 4p in scheduled duty rises to 116p. Another 14p per litre rise in the cost of production is not out of the question over 12 months given that iirc 2010 is supposed to be the point when we see the peak rate of oil supply and a demand curve which is very much on the up. Increased tensions in the middle east will also put an upward pressure on prices.

The scarier point is in the next 10 years as demand will way outstrip supply...

It's always situational. Couple in the fact that the S3 runs on V power, against the other car running on normal unleaded and it gets even worse.

The S3 was worked out as part of a two car setup, it's just that the other car was stolen and written off and hasn't yet been replaced. Running the S3 exclusively since october has shown that the original setup is definitely the better one, so it's just a case of sorting out what to get to act as a runabout. Shock of shocks, it may even be something new ;)

Utterly OT: Had no idea you'd got a Passat Firestar! You kept that quiet. Mind you, probably sensible :p

Lol, not worth making a thread over!

Had it 6 months now, Its actually not that bad, its a 2001 estate so its the facelift, sports trim with a few extras added by the previous owner, FMSH not a bad spec its only really missing heated leather, Metalic blue.

Was after something bigger and wanted to save some money coming from the Mazda :)

Totally, i was in the position of running my Supercharged MX5 and then as a second car a 53 plate clio 1.2, worked alright since the mazda only got 17 -22ish mpg, both have gone now in favor of something that 'does it all' well expect the fast country road bit :(

I'm glad I dont drive a fuel guzzler or do many miles for that matter.

I cant see it going down either, it's a monopoly for the government because no matter how much people moan about it, they'll still fill up as they "need" a car.
