Here you go, one very expensive pyramid - ATI's Flagship Card!

Im a student and i get 2.6k in may :P

Plus i said if i get a good price for my 5970+block.. Soo if i got £350ish i would only have to spend £150 (the 6990 might drop in price by may)

so not much money IF the performance is worth it at my res

Good to see our tax being put to good use for your education

If and only IF the price is right on "here", I will consider it getting this time, rather than elsewhere (like it happened with 5970), come on people, do not disappoint.

I was hoping the 6990s would be pretty sweet but it ends up being kinda disappointing. I think they tried to go too far with one card. I've read most of the 6990 reviews with some cliff notes:

Expensive, hot (some reviews the 6990 actually shut down the computer from overheating), incredibly loud, microstutter noted, poor 2x 6990 scaling (quad-fire) in many titles.

Basically you are better off in virtually every way if you opt for traditional single GPU card X-Fire/SLI setups. Pretty much what I expected. One review had the 6990 noise level twice that of GTX580 SLI setup. Thats just lol.

One of my favorite review quotes: "In order to keep the card at 90 degrees or less, the fan then speeds up to 3600 RPM, or what I call Charlie Sheen F-18 mode."

Yowzers...so erm...should I cancel the order of 4 of these then?

In all seriousness, that is just madness. I mean ok, I understand the pricing side of things. But the reviews really don't leave much in the way of "wowness". Think I will stick with my 4870X2 for a little while longer. Thank you.
