Heroes of the Storm

Got mumble sorted! haven't used coms since my cs days, i'll try to get on tonight although drunken hots doesn't do much for Hl rank :P

Some hard games last night going against some organised teams. Double heal seams a tad power full at the moment, thank fully finally got 2 very good wins before close. Good fun on all of the games though.

Can anyone point me towards a guide that covers team fight basics? What to focus etc. I play with 4 other friends thus we are always matched against other 5 man's. We are still learning the ropes and tend to get smashed in team fights. We know about picking a balanced team, but in team fights we always end up split up and get blizted!

I don't have any guides but a good starting point would be the following:

1) Appoint a shot caller - Someone who makes the decisions and the rest follow. Having 5 people calling out causes confusion and chaos, it's a big part of team wipes. Granted if the call that's made is wrong then by all means suggest otherwise but in general, go with the call.

2) Don't run in outnumbered even if you will lose the objective, you will likely die and still lose it but then have to deal with a lengthy cool down, especially late game.

3) Don't team fight if they have level 10 ults and you don't, 80% of the time you will be wiped as they are too powerful, pull away and soak until you hit 10.

4) Target the squishes. Too many people will focus warriors as they're usually in your face, all this does is provide the enemy teams damage dealers with free reign to take you out. Decide before you engage who your target is then all focus on that hero. My advice go for the highest damage dealers, if you remove their damage they can't do much. If no assasins near by then go for their healer, always leave the warriors until last unless you have no choice.

5) Your front liner (warrior) always initiates the fight.

6) Keep moving, don't face plant while standing still, you are an easy target for skill shots, this also applies while laning.

7) Be aware of your surroundings, if you have lots of aoe damage then try funnel them into a small space, they may do the same, if they have lots of aoe, don't get caught in tight spaces.

8) Keep an eye out for any shimmering, this will be a cloaked hero either Nova or Zeratul, once you see it you get used to spotting it.

9) Dont get carried away, you may kill a few then a rush of blood to the head sees you chasing one or two enemies as they run away, on many occasions you end up too deep in their base and can easily lose a few heroes. If you wipe a few and 2 start to flee, if you can't grab them within a couple of seconds, pull back and regroup. Getting caught out of position happens a lot.

10) Look at your team comps, see what combos you can play off each other.

11) Have fun, more you play the more you will understand objectives.

I will try get a replay up to give you an idea in the next hour.

Generally i will call the target, stun and then we all attack that one target, then i will try call the second target.

Granted it doesn't always work but it does more often than not.

Once the basics are in place then you can start to look at things like body blocking, baiting.

Body blocking is very under appreciated and hardly done but it can make a huge difference. Got one of their heroes out of position, he's in a choke point, just keep blocking him to stop him getting past, all the while dealing damage to him.

Also if you're a warrior with plenty of health and you see one of your squishes being hit, get in the way, put your body in between so you soak the damage instead. Don't die over it but it may save you team mate.

You can also body block nova triple tap as she will no doubt target a squishy, just get in line with it if you can afford to take the hit.

Baiting can be fun and plenty fall for it, have a couple hidden in bushes, send a third to try and bait an enemy hero to chase then jump out of cover and gank.

Non of these posts are in-depth stuff and not all of it might be great info as I'm far from a top player. Some of it maybe useful though.

What are people's thoughts on Tyrande? I don't feel she's a true support, her healing isn't as strong as other supports, and it seems harsh that if you pick her you'll be matched against the likes of Lili etc. Is she only viable if your team already has a support?

Tyrande seems to have tailed off a bit lately, she used to be pretty good but i feel unless you build a comp around her then she's lacking. Can be very good in a well organised team though.

Personally i'd go for Uther, Brightwing and probably Rehgar. Li Li can heal well but she does little else and any decent team will simply stun her when she ults.

If you want some basic ideas of builds google heroesfire, people upload their builds.

the learning curve of his game is pretty vertical....

it is but once you get going it's good fun. Seems a good crowd from here on most night - join the "party" play a few games - no one from here gives out any hassle at all.

I need to branch out more - only hero's I tend to play is Valla and Sgt Hammer (so much fun with a good team)

Need to try some others soon on the rotation.

Blog time. Had a vikings player yesterday who kept all three together the whole game. Enemy team had KT and Jaina. They went to town on him.

Vikings ended with 9 deaths. (36 individual viking deaths!)

When I asked why he didn't split and soak, he nonchalantly said "this is my tactic"

We lost that game.

The vikings awe such a headache to play but split them in 2 lanes and let your remaining 4 push one lane can be awesome.

I got them to level 6 and just can't be arsed with the stress of them. 9 deaths is good going though.

I want to try a team comp around Azmodan, late game it's brutal.

Basically 3 roam with him, you get the minions low on health and then he dunks them to death, this stacks his damage up so much.
