Heroes of the Storm

This is the first MOBA I'm going to try and seriously get into, have I picked a good one to learn with?

I tried Dota 2 a while ago and the community was incredibly abusive when I used my skills incorrectly etc...is HOTS the same or are people more forgiving?

It's a nice easy game to get into but there is a skill level that not many reach.

Games are generally nice and quick, no laning for 30 mins in a 60 min game. There is also a PvE side of the game so even if your team loses the PvP battles you can still win by capturing camps, bosses and just playing the objectives.

Also if you like the Blizzard universe that will help.

No last hitting, gold etc... Your team levels up equally and at certain levels you get to choose abilities to improve your skills in multiple ways.

There is still abuse, you will never get away from it but it's not as bad as the others. Plus you can mute them and the ping system although basic it does work well.

The game does get expensive though if you start buying things with cash, not that I've played Smite but I think you can get all heroes for like £30. It's much higher buying in this. Always worth waiting until Tuesday and see whats on sale.

Oh and if you're new login in before tomorrow and you will get a free 7 day stimpack, this gives you 150% extra gold and 100% xp per game.

From my experience this game has a lot less toxic atmosphere than the other moba's I have tried (lol and dota2).

This comes at the expense of a general lack of communication though and you will often go full games without anyone saying anything.

I must add I've not done any hero league games yet and I expect things will get worse when ratings are on the line.

Generally the most toxic players usually end up being the worst player on the team.

That said my biggest gripes in this game are people who think the game is lost after 5 minutes and proceed to do what they want at the expense of the team.

Many many games have been turned around late on. I was in one yesterday, we were getting smashed for about 10 minutes and were way behind. Due to the bonus xp for the losing team, we wiped them and then it all clicked and we went on and won. Games are rarely lost early on.

The other annoyance is people not knowing or willing to push core. A lane cleared to the core, they have 3-4 people dead while we have all 5 up. The easy win is to rush the core but no, time and time again you will see people go grab coins on black hearts bay or grab camps etc...

If they just pushed you simply wouldn't lose the game.

Have to agree with this...last night i had a few bad HL games. In the last game it looked like we had lost all the way through on haunted mines until we back doored the core while they were in the mines, up until the win i was getting it in the kneck for picking lili vs KT for loosing the game. once one person picks someone to have go at others do tend to jump on the wagon i have noticed.

I haven't been playing it long, but I would say yes, definitely.

i'm just trying to figure out the best way to spend my gold. I have just over 10k, with only Raynor, Muradin and Malfurion owned. I tried Leoric, but didn't like him, also didn't really like Zagara

Best thing to start is to make sure you have 1 of every class/universe type for challenges. This will help you maximize your gold gaining abilities.

1 warrior
1 specialist
1 assassin
1 support

then with the above try get 1 from each universe (Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft)

This means that when you get a daily challenge for gold you are covered.

Anybody going to be on tonight?

I keep getting the odd person speaking in the /ocuk channel but I always seem to be in a game when people are about and visa versa when I'm available.

All the new skins, my bank account is going to take a hit.

So far I want:

Kharazim (hero)
Judgement Uther (skin)
Doomhammer (skin)
Demonic Tyrael (skin)
Treasure Goblin (mount)
Judgement Charger (mount)
Blackheart's Doubloon (mount)
Malthael's Phantom (mount)

Not played much lately but look forward to getting back into the swing of things.

Just had a quick go of the Monk, can see him being lots of fun to play. Also had a go on the new map, looks the same as the previous Diablo one but 3 lanes and you have to capture a shrine, kill 30 skeletons and the first team to do it spawns The Punisher.

Difference this time being though unlike other maps The Punisher goes after heroes and will jump over walls etc.. to chase you.

Came back this week after a few months, can't believe they still haven't fixed the 21:9 support lol, we've been moaning about it since alpha.

Novazon is a bit underwhelming. The basic abilities are themed but the heroics are unchanged. Can't see myself spending almost £8 on a novelty skin when not everything is different.

Paid £22 for Nova plus all skins, think it was a pretty good bundle, pref Roller Derby Nova as it looks so silly on my alpha rainbow goat :D

lol - just gone 36-0 in Hero league with lili

Love it when a team just works together. total domination!

edit 2nd game with the same team - 26-0!!

That's funny - 62-0 in 2 games with LiLi the killer! ;-)
