hi all need help with overclocking

ok i have it at 3.5ghz
cpu volts are 1.4v
temps are 69c 69c 63c 63c at full load
temps t idle 32c 31c 31c 27c
i have ran prime for 30mins on small fft.
my ram is currently at 1052

should i stick at this as temps are getting high
what should i do about ram or is that ok at 1052

cheers
Id probly leave it at that rick, as you say temps are starting to climb and will only get higher as you increase the voltage to push the clockspeed (besides 3.5 is a pretty good oc on a q6600) Youd probly need a better cpu cooler as well if you wanted to go higher. Id also suggest running prime 95 small fft for about 8 hours or so, this is a common accepted time for a good indication of stability. And your ram should be fine as its running ever so slightly below its rated speed.

ok mate thanks for the help and advice on getting my pc overclocked im chuffed i got it to 3.5ghz im sure this will be plenty enough power for my gaming needs for a while,i will run it when i get home tommorow from work then i will see how cryisis runs again cheers for your help and patience and to everyone else who helped as well

10/10 to you guys

I'd personally run a blend test for 8 hours opposed to a small FFT so you can test your RAM and CPU. Even though you haven't clocked your RAM, I never did either, and I ran small ffts for a few hours without a prob, I then ran blend and it died in 5 minutes. I had to make a few NB and PLL changes to get it stable... you may have to do the same.

So run a blend for 8 hours, then you know your safe!

Yep i would also run a blend test for a few hours just to be sure, i usually concentrate on getting the cpu overclock stable first ((8+ hours small fft) then give the ram a similair test with blend, although up to when i hit 3.6 i always ran the ram below stock on a 1.1 ratio to take it out of the cpu stability equation.

rick, this is a cracking thread. I have bought the exact same motherboard and chip today, and I'd love to know your settings for the 3.4 overclock. Anything above 3.2 stable would be great by me. I have the same cooler too.

If you could post what you changed from stock in the bios from scratch, I'd really appreciate it, I'm kind of a noob at overclocking and might need some handholding :P

thanks for the replys nice to hear from you sodapod, mate give it a go i was worried about doing it but if you increase it a bit at a time you wont go wrong as long as you watch the temps and not increase the volts to much you be fine mate.

newbe5 i can give you the settings for mine but like most in this thread will say each cpu is different which is true, what is your vid(find this using cpu-z)mine is a 1.3.

i did it in stages i got to 3.2 on stock settings after this it got a bit more interesting

basically increase fsb in stages post above from keogh will explain how the fsb x multiplyer works example fsb 413x 8 = 3.3ghz but dont go and do that straight away tho increase it to 2.7 first run prime small fft for 30mins or so watch coretemp should stay pretty low for now, only really starts getting toasty at around 3.4 max i got that was around 55c

i didnt need to touch anything till around 3.4ghz but like i said your could be different might be better might be worse, let me know how you get on post back and i will help you as much as i can,or someone herem might add there thoughts setter keogh have helped me really well

also whats your cooling like fans ect i have 8 fans in mine 3 of these is my dominator ram fans.nice and cool in there now lol what ram do you have ect as you didnt say ragarding the ram keep that below its limit.

ps keogh/setter prime is done all is stable and perfect at 3.5ghz

I've got the Antec 300 case, so whatever fans come in that are the ones I have :P I can always get some more if needed. I'm not after a huge overclock, I'd be more than happy with stable 3.2, since my GFX card will be doing most of the grunt work anyways.

I get the components tomorrow hopefully, so I'll follow your instructions and let you know how it goes! Thanks man!

hi mate yes good case hence i got it lol so you have two fans try and get the 3 120mm ones which go in there dooor and two front well worth it and fairly cheap moe cooling the better i said 3.2 meself now look at me 3.5ghz but if your happy at 3.2 then thats ok,i just like to get it as far as possiable before the heat gets to toasty ect.

did it all arrive ok lets see some pics.but remember take your time and it will be a stress free job
