HID Conversion

5000k are the best colour temp to go for IMHO, a very, very crisp ice white, perfect colour that falls between 4300k and 6000k.
 
I got an HID conversion kit (5000k) off ebay for my Civic Type R and have just fitted them, I will get a picture when it gets dark. So far they seem a lot brighter.

Only down side is my side lights look orange in comparison, so I have bought some white LEDs. :p

Very pleased with the results, I think there needs to be a little adjustment to make them perfect, but at least they aren't blinding people.

There appear to be more ****'s on the road these days then regular sensible drivers - might as well go join the majority.

The problem is not HID headlights, the problem is poorly aligned headlights, which can be hid or halogen.

My (oem) HID's are not that bright at all, but pointed in someone face, and it doesn't really matter if it's hid or not. The self leveling system doesn't stop the lights bouncing up and down over bumps either, it levels the lights depending on the load over the rear axle. Something which halogen users generally never do anyway!
 

Yeh I did fit it myself, it was pretty easy as I went for the canbus system. I no longer have these headlights as the protector lenses were designed for halogen bulbs, as you can see the flick of light. This was dazzling drivers pulling out of junctions or when I was overtaking.

What i do have now is retrofitted headlights with TSX HID projectors (Taken from a Honda Accord) and a relay system. These were a direct swap with my existing projectors so it was just a matter or taking the headlight apart and swapping them out.

I will get a picture tonight and post it. I got my kit from www.theretrofitsource.com and the HID projectors from a user on www.hidplanet.com.

The outcome was much better and I now have a flat clean cutoff which doesn't dazzle anyone.

No. You're referring to those not fitting them correctly and in a standard reflector housing, which If you had read the thread, causes issues with dazzling etc.

OEM ones do, at least on a Skoda Octavia. And I think it's the same on most OEM systems.
Sure it won't move quick enough when you're doing 90mph on the motorway but in town traffic over speed bumps they make a huge difference.

Must have changed later on then. I know my ones (2002) Only change a fixed amount when the car is started.
 
As promised, complete retrofit instead of putting HIDs into Halogen projectors.

The light output is better distributed and brighter than before, the picture does not do it justice.
You can see i am not as close to the wall, but the light output and the cutoff is so much better.

Much better! I've had HIDs in halogen projectors in the past and although they don't glare upwards the light below the cut off isn't great..

Granted it is bright! But since they are designed for halogens, which don't have the lumens a hid bulb has, the projector casts a narrow beam to make up for the lack of power... As a result i find HIDs in halogen projects have a bit of a "laser beam" effect where everything in front is really bright, but the sides/pavements, not so much.
