A mate of mine who runs a studio of his own swears by cubase, but i'm just more of a purist.. hate working with MIDI if i can avoid it, and therefore just slipped in to ProTools at a time when Cubase 5 was still Steinberg's latest offering. Must say, nuendo is good but it feels too much like they always wanted it to be called Cubase 1.5 lol
Indeed mate, I would far prefer working with nothing but mics and instruments all day long. Unfortunately I'm a pretty bad drummer, and not the best pianist around so use MIDI to make up for that. Guitar is more my thing (ABRSM Grade 8 classical guitar with distinction at age 12)

It wouldn't be a problem if I was content with just taking acoustic demo's in to the studio but I like to have a pretty complete idea of the arrangement before a producer gets his hands on it. Hence the need for MIDI.
Back in the Cubase VST (5) days it was awful. ProTools was leagues ahead back then. When SX was released they combined it with Nuendo. Now in SX version 3 the only difference between Cubase and Nuendo is that Nuendo has extra features for video production and also allows full surround sound mixing. As far as quality-wise for audio, they are now identical.
