Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

I went to Canada this summer, it was the third time I'd been to Banff but I was a first time hiker. Can only say I missed out before. Such an incredibly beautiful place, such a rewarding experience to take even a short hike. Here are some horrible and badly exposed photos I took, I can't wait to go again.

Sentinel pass. A bit sketchy crossing the scree and snow to get there.

Has anyone done the three peaks challenge I need to start looking into for next year.
Do you go through a company or organise it yourself?
What sort of costs are we talking about etc.
Is there preffered coach companies that don't mind sweaty potentially mudy people and used to doing such things, or is it a matter of just phoning around.

^^
And wow breathtaking views.

Great pictures 'Going to Cali'. I'm really hoping I get a chance to make it out to Banff soon. I have bugger all holiday at work though so it's going to have to wait until next year I expect :(

I have a few hikes coming up, a short hike at Goat Mountain in North Vancouver this weekend, then in a couple of weeks we'll be doing Joffre Lakes, and then finally making a trip to Whistler and doing some hiking on Whistler Mountain. Should be fun :)

Random shout but does anyone know a good army surplus website?

Want to pick myself up a hammock and tarp/basha for a bit of wild camping. Already have the usual stuff but reckon these would compliment the bivi bag quite well.

Feel free to tell me if i'm hankering for the wrong gear.

Not sure about online army surplus, I've always gone to an army surplus outlet and just bought in store. Love those places with all their historic uniforms and kit :D Online your best bet admittedly is eBay.

Where's best place to sell a pair of brand new, unused in box Scarpa SL bordo 9.5 boots?
Warranty replacements and decided to go custom so trying to get some money back.

Myself and a few mates have bought gear from these guys and no issues so far..

Tenth Wonder hammocks and Tarps

Heading to Ben Nevis on Saturday. Pick my mate up at 1am, five and a half hour drive up the country, walk up and down and another drive back all in one day.

Seems a waste to go all that way and not stay the night and enjoy the next day.

I've just had an awesome couple days over in Snowdonia doing some grade 3 routes! :D Did Shark Buttress on the Tuesday, then the Idwal Staircase followed by the Cneifion Arete on the Wednesday.

Were used to this sort of thing most times we go to the lakes were there and walking by 5am, best part of the day, and the staying awake for near 24 hours is prep for the 3 peaks as soon as we feel ready.

Great day, set off at 1am, arrived at 6:30, had some breakfast and started walking, only took 3 hours to get to the top and 2 and half to get back down, back home for 19:30. Glorious weather.

Anyone walked the West highland Way ? Got some friends coming over from Canada next May so going to be walking it then Looking at about 7-8 days Walking and finish it off with Ben Nevis..

I did it about 10 years ago. Did in 5 days, the middle day was shorter. Hoped to Nevis at the end but the weather didn't improve. It rained all day every day for 5 days and the campgrounds were so wet that our sleeping gear got wet.

Tbh, there is much better hiking in Scotland.

^ Cheers fella :) post is making me Grin. Good job my skin is weather proof just in case.

I've spent some serious times being wet on the Pennines with full packs and soaked gear. Character building :)

What is the best way for someone to get into hiking/trekking? We enjoy going on the odd ramble in the countryside, but I'd really love to get keen and start going on some larger walks.
