Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

@Burnsey, or anyone else in the know... I have the OS Map app on my phone with a few maps downloaded to it that I've purchased, so I can use the OS Explorer maps on my phone no problemo.

Why is it that even though I have purchased those maps and redeemed them on my account, I can't view the Explorer layer on ordnancesurvey.co.uk without a premium subscription? Seems unfair to have to pay twice to use it on PC!

It's a good point. I would tweet the OS Twitter account. You can also give feedback within the webapp.

It's common for people to send supplies ahead to pickup en route.

Not sure how long you expect to take as it's only ~100miles but you will be passing through places with shops too.

i've already done that one. looking at routes in america, and some have 7 days between stops.

Ah, using the past tense now.

Carry less, move faster :)

You're not likely to find anything as calorific as peanut butter, I'm sure you have the right idea already - whatever energy bars and drink mix you find palatable (clif bars and psp22), flapjacks/oats, dried fruit, nuts, marzipan, chorizo, couscous, rice cakes (for your peanut butter). That sort of thing.

that's the idea. trying to lessen the weight everywhere.

went and did Pen Y fan and Corn Du in the Brecons today. Ideal weather for me, slightly overcast, but plenty of stiff wind which helps cool me down. Was pretty busy though, would rather "wilderness" be quitish.
Brecons at least isn't to bad a drive for me, so over the next however many years, going to try and do all 188 of the welsh 2000 footers.

I'll hopefully head back over Monday and do Craig Cerrig-gleisiad and Fan Frynych

if you're interested in a list, i found this site, got a map and direct links to street maps.

site also has the list for Scottish and English 2000 footers as well.

My third time up there just because the niece wanted to tick it off her list (done the three peaks now), and the wide wanted to see if she could do it.

Yay, along with iwatch2 announcement, viewranger is releasing an app for it. Finally a full colour GPS watch that does hiking routes. No more getting map or phone out, just for a quick check that you haven't gone wrong. Now just have to save up the £399, and maybe by that time android will have something, as I hate paying apple pricea.

Did another two peaks on Monday, very foggy, very wet, very muddy. But great time until half way down and I went down hard and twisted ankle. Took me just over an hour to do what should have been about 30minutes. Can hardly walk now. So will be a few weeks before I can get back out there. And shows why its a good idea if alone to carry a find me spot or similar. Wouldn't use it for twisted ankle. But if something worse happened. Would be able to get rescued in a timely manner.

What rucksacks are people using for walking? My current bag isn't very comfortable and is only 18l. Putting a waterproof and an extra layer in deforms it so it's less comfy still. Only really want it for day walks.

For multi day stuff osprey atmos ag 50.
For day stuff a rubbish one from asda, but looking at getting a platypus sprinter xt 35
Probably a bit big for day stuff, but makes it felixable and its water proof, hydration bladder section and generally looks good for. Something capable of a lot.

With no improvements in battery I can see this being pretty useless in a full day hike. Although I'll be picking up a Series 2 Apple Watch, I'll stick to my Garmin Fenix 3 and Oregon for the time being.

didn't get a permit :(.
has anyone done Hadrians wall and is so how many camp sites are there along the route and is it easy to get transport back to the start?

also anyone done any trials in Europe which take around 2 weeks?

My latest overnight camp at Cadair Idris :)

There is lot more video of my adventures on my channel.

Nice video! Very interesting and well produced. A smidge long maybe but no problem for me. Love the photos you took also. Are you on Instagram?

I'm limited to my playing out as I can't take the dogs anymore. One is too ill, another too old and I can't leave them two behind.

My o/h documents our adventures on her blog. Here's her Ben Nevis via the CMDA mini write up, photos and route: http://www.kcsimm.co.uk/2016/09/06/6th-september-2016-ben-nevis/

I hope to get my camera out and do some wild camping for some astro photography and sunset/rise when I can. Doing the National Three Peaks in July. Should be a doddle really given the routes and ridges we did last year.

Thanks for watching it, yes I know its a little long but I cut so much just to get it down to 27mins :) I'm on Instagram as scottmorgan73

That Ben Nevis trip looked great and its on my hit list to do :)

Great video, I love it out round Cadair, cracking mountain and always quiet. The Cyfrwy Arete via the Table Direct on Cadair is one of my fav routes too, it feels like a proper alpine style ridge!

I was meant to do a traverse of the Rhinogs over Easter the gale force winds and rain weren't my idea of fun for walking for two days so it's booked in for a couple weeks time now instead.

Cadair is lovely when its nice, but have experienced it in the harsh winter conditions and was not so forgiving :) Hopefully get back soon and stay at the lake.

What's the background music towards the end? It sounds familiar.

It came from a paid subscription site and has no real name :(

Why not do the SWCP? Two weeks will get you most of the way round Cornwalls coast. You can then just get a bus/train back to where you parked your car as well.
