Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

anyone else cook on day trips, nothing like a bacon sarnie to boast moral and if you place yourself well enough you can troll others walking up the hill with the smell :D

Don't really see the point in doing this for a day trip, carrying all that extra gear and food seems a waste of time and effort when you'll probably be up and back down within 7 hours so may as well go and find a pub and let someone else do the prep/cooking/cleaning up for you :)

If you're travelling to Scafell I'd also vote parking up at Wasdale and walking from there. If you are coming from Ambleside way type in google directions Ambleside to Wasdale. The route it takes you is along a road I think is called Smithy Brow Lane. This is a fun drive!

It's a shame the walk up Scafell doesn't match the drive there. In my opinion it is the least interesting of the three peaks. Helvellyn, striding edge and Fairfield offer much better walks.

That the Hardknott and Wrynose Pass road? Great fun to drive, have fond memories of waiting for 10mins at the bottom in an over loaded Civic, waiting for the traffic to pass so I could get a "run up" to get over it. A right laugh, though wouldn't like to try it in anything larger than a van.

OK, next up for us is Scafell Pike. Have any of you guys been up there before? What's it like compared to Snowdon?

We'll be heading off around the 15th of March. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us than Snowdon.

Got a question around parking - might be taking our motorhome, which is pretty long. Will we be able to park it anywhere? Are there any dedicated parking areas, or will it be a case of parking on the road?

I always like the route up from Seathwaite myself, theres also dedicated parking at the top of the road at Seatoller that will add a mile or so extra to your walk.

Head up from Seathwaite to Styhead Tarn, then onto the corridor route to Scafell Pike, then come back down a different way by heading to Broad Crag and Great End. Can also detour to Lingmell and Mickledore via the Lords Rake to make the day a bit longer if needs be! :)

Lots of great photos on here! I'm heading off to Aviemore in a few weeks for a spot of climbing, can't wait!

My mountain highlight was a couple of years ago when I summited Mont Blanc via the 3 Monts Route with a friend of mine on a perfect summers day! Made a little video (with suitabley epic music) if anyone's interested!:

A few pictures from Glen Doll last weekend (Driesh, a Munro, in the last picture). It got a bit too slippy as we ascended so we turned back - snow was pretty deep in places! Great day - made all the better by a quick pint in front of a log burner at the pub on the road out :)

Coming up in next few months:

  • 4 days hiking in Pembrokshire
  • 3 days hiking in Lake District, including Scarfell Pike (highest mountain in England)
  • Weekend in Snowdonia to climb Mount Snowdon (highest mountain in Wales)
  • Weekend in Brecon Beacons, "The Black Mountain" (note Singular, not to be confused with "The Black Mountains" which is elsewhere)
  • 8 days hiking the "West High Land Way" (Trail from Glasgow to Fort William), ending with a climb of Ben Nevis (Highest Mountain in Scotland, and the UK)

This weekend I am doing a 13 mile, 580 total accent hike on the South Downs

Recent Trips include

  • Weekend in central part of Brecon Beacons
  • Weekend in the Gower Peninsular
  • Weekend hiking the Jurassic Coasts in both Devon and Dorset
  • Another Climb of Snowdon
  • Several other day hikes in Surrey, London, and South Coast

You could say I am quite into my Hiking

Everyone been keeping up with there hiking?
Were off up to Skiddaw on Saturday got a 12.5mile route planned.

I've personally never seen the appeal of Skiddaw myself, just a big old lump with no 'personality' to it :/

That's some list you've got there!

I really would like to some bits in the Peak District and Brecon Beacons at some point as never been.

Plenty more out there, considering there are plenty of other boots out there to choose from i dont see the lust for Salomon boots, (other than they were on gadget show which tested them for 10 minutes).
