Hirsch mapped my Saab 9-3 but a slight issue....

Looking on Camskill, those tyres are priced to compete with the likes of such stunning performers in the tyre world as the Triangle TR968 Talon and Rotalla F105, not to mention tyres like the Sava Intensa UHP or Matador MP46 Hectorra2.

Buy some new tyres that aren't complete crap and you'll find this problem goes away almost like magic :p

You might even come to appreciate how other people can launch fairly hard without wheelspinning 50ft down the road, though not launching it like a spanner helps too :p

Matador MP46 Hectorra2.

Your front tyres are just rubbish

You've hurt the tyres' feelings now :(

Anyone able suggest a decent 225/45/17 that doesn't cost £200 a corner? I'm tempted to go for the TR1s or F1 Assyms as I'm familar with those tyres from my BMW days and they come at a reasonable cost. Conti3s and such like, admittedly perform well, but Conti seem to overcharge on every single tyre they sell. Is there much difference/imrovement between the Assym 1s and the Assym 2s?

Just had a look on BlackCircles for fitted prices.

T1Rs - £100
Vred Ultrac Sessentas - £152!! (Camskill / tyre only)
Assym 1s - £120
Assym 2s - £115
Conti 3s - £128

Just read the Autocar test: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-Autocar-Tyre-Test-RWD.htm Seems like the Assyms do everything the best except for dry grip, where its bested by the Conti 3. Interestingly, if you look on the right side margin of that page, they list tyre test results from various car magazine including the German car mags. Gonna have a read....

I would go for the Assymetric 2's - a generation ahead of all of the rest of those and big improvements in Rolling Resistence over the old F1's as well. Great wet grip also.

Take a look on mytyres, as they seem to be cheaper on fitted prices for most of those you've listed.

CS3's are £118
Assym 2's are £111
Vreds are £109
Rainsport 2's are £105

Agree with fox, the assym 2's are the best. The original was well regarded by many 93 owners along with the CS3.

How do those prices work? You get the tyres delivered for the price above and then take them to one of their approved fitting centres where you pay £6-£10 (depending on the centre) per tyre to get them fitted?

Nope they ship them to a fitter of your choice and you choose the date and time for fitting. (gives you all of the options when you add them to the basket)

Yep, that's what I've doing - I did say I had spent the last day ragging it.

The wheelspin I had noticed was launching the car from stationary at large roundabouts at full throttle, changing up to 2nd on the exit, flooring the throttle, then to 3rd, full throttle etc. All in the name of scientific research of course :p

And yes, the Hirsch dealer upgrade has a 10 day trial period. Go back within 10 days and they convert it back to the stock map.

That should be a 28 day trial thats what is offered in Holcrofts Stoke, having mine re-done 9-5 AWD 2.8 from 300 to 330bhp had to take it off as my insurance would not continue cover with it on, new insurance in Sept so back on it goes.

Just noticed that that there are no rear wipers on this car, which is a bit annoying.

Why do so many cars not have rear wipers? Makes no sense.

Exactly - it makes no sense. It's not as if water never accumulates on the rear screen, obscuring vision. If anything, the angle/rake of the rear screen of many saloons NEEDS a rear wiper to clear the water. A £500 Peugeot 306 has a rear wiper, but a £25,000 BMW doesn't. Crazy.

It makes perfect sense - the aerodynamic properties of the saloons rear window are such that it doesn't get caked in crap and road film in the same way a hatchback or estate does.

I find it a complete non-issue but wouldnt want to drive a hatch without one, check out the rear of a VW Golf for an illustration of what I mean.

Crap and roadfilm? I'm talking about rain water. I've lost count of the times I drove to the shops in the 323i and the rear screen is full of beads of water, giving me 25-30% vision. Did the same this wet morning in the 9-3 and the rear screen is just as bad.

Not exactly difficult or costly to have a rear wiper on the rear screen. Make it an option at the very least. Some of us actually use the rear view mirror.

Ruins the line of the bootlid though, where would you mount it?

Simple solution, properly rain-x or wax the rear screen, I rarely had any standing water on my 330d's rear screen.
