Hit by car for second time in 2 weeks

6 years and you still can't keep yourself calm on the road. If it was an accident, solve it with some common sense. If there are any damage to you or your bike, proceed as normal to getting the driver at fault to pay out (insurance, etc...). If they refuse, what's wrong with calling the coppers down? If the driver runs away, take down the reg. number, vehicle colour/make/model and report it at your local station as a RTA.

Quite the oposite. I have kept my self "calm" for years, why should cyclists put up with this behavior? You are right! Next time I'll note down the reg number and report them for dandgerous driving!

Noticed from your then 'deen aswell, i only go out cycling on my bmx with grind pegs, cars get too close they get a nice scratch down the side. I had a huge merc 4x4 pull out in front of my then stop in the road. Nearly went into the side of her had to serve, luckly no traffic on the other side of the road. Cars in aberdeen don't seem to care about cyclist at all.

My bikes are insured for accidents. If someone wants to claim they can. I know myself and a few other people in this are quite a way beyond the £99 Halfords mark in cycling. Its a different world.

LOL - then it comes down to how much faith you have in the local law enforcement officers. Which tbh, is a waste of time and effort.

Hence the fact that you are really on your own, unless you go to the trouble of getting witnesses etc etc etc....

Its the age old argument of taking the law into your own hands. This is indeed, very wrong. However, if the guy in the car knows your pretty annoyed i feel the 'Victim' feel's as if justice has been done.

That seems to sum it up, for both directions.

Will you ever talk to me on msn again, by the way?

I actually ignored it ;) If I did misread, apologies :)

Easier said than done. Many victims feel the need to express more than that annoyance to feel justice is done. Some people will only be satisfied if they have the last say or are the last to take action.

Thats also true.

What gives you the right to slow everybody down eh?

They overtook you, so what? Then you decided you didn't like it so you went up the pavement then sat in front of them.

ok, yes I did post the expected posts of road tax and insurance, however, as has been demonstrated here, bike users seem to be under the impression that they are above the law in some way, if you use the road, then you adhere to the rules. Unfortunately, not many people in swansea grasp this concept, or the famous "filtering" trick ends up being a nervous time while they somehow make it down the length of your car without hitting anything.

let's face it - anyone on the roads on a bicycle or motorcycle these days is taking their life in their hands.

There are now so many cretins driving cars, vans and munchkins takin'-Johnny-to-school in armoured personnel carriers that two-wheeled road users probably have a marginally worse chance of reaching retirement than an armless 34 stone deaf blind epileptic crackhead free-fall parachutist attached by a piece of old knicker elastic to a snotrag. On a good day...

STW thread if I ever saw one!

I do my best not to slow cars down and make sure they can't just ignore me and/or run me off the road. Its all about making yourself visible - you have to get in the way sometimes when drivers want to do 40 and you're going to overtake them in 30 seconds.

Its never about being arrogant, just looking after yourself.

True.

Earlier today I saw a motorcyclist being recusitated in the middle of the road after some moron had pulled out in front of him at a junction :(

Plenty of cretins on 2 wheels as well mate.

that doesn't hold up. Road tax is there to pay for the damage caused by the multi ton cars causing damage to the road / causing pollution.....a bike causes negligible damage to the road .

Same goes for mopeds, but they have to pay?

Pedestrians actually have right of way as clearly stated in the highway code, cyclists do not.

The reason it's hard being a cyclist on the roads is because your vehicle isn't equipped to do what all other road going vehicles can. You can't keep up with traffic, you aren't required to have mirrors and you don't have any indicators. If you filled these requirments you'd find it a lot easier to get on with other road users.

I recon anyone using the roads should be made to pay insurance and have a clearly visible form of identification.

If someone on a bike dented my car because I accidentally cut him up then I'd want to be able to claim the damages off him. As it stands there's no way of doing that and that's why most cyclists think they can get away with breaking the law.

This whole road tax arguement is pretty ridiculous for cyclists. Many pedestrians dont pay road tax, but you still give them the right of way regardless (i hope)?

You mean I can't run down people walking in the middle of the road? So, that's the reason the police keep wanting to have a chat with me!

I'll start giving cyclists the so-called "right of way" when they start paying attention to the fact that there are actually cars on the road. And considering that I've had them somehow miss spotting me in a 5000lb V8 behemoth, I may well be waiting a while.....
