Hit by car for second time in 2 weeks

About a month ago i was coming home from work and the road was unusually buisy at that time (roadworks i think). Anyway this car was getting a little close for comfort and it actually knocked the side of my pedal sending me crashing into the curb and off my bike.
I was so angry i quickly got up and keyed the side of his car and opened his boot (opening ppls boots while there in traffic is a family tradition after much booze :p )

Unbelievable

It just annoys me that some ppl are real jerks

Likewise, people like yourself it seems.

I'm a driver and a cyclist, and see both sides.

As a cyclist my biggest fear is people getting out of their cars - they just open doors into your path (unless you give them 3-4 feet, which isn't achievable in most of London). I have been knocked off this way - the driver subsequently lost his wing mirror as he obviously doesn't use them. Otherwise I do adide by traffic lights and don't bother with the pavements - I always catch the cyclists that ignore lights/pavements anyway, so don't see the point in behaving like them.

As a driver, and something that happened 2 nights ago, there were 2 kids on bikes without lights at 10:30pm, going down a long hill (300m) at 35-40mph (spd limit was 30) side by side. I just sat behind them, noisily in 2nd gear. They promptly went to the side, in single file, and I just tail-gated them (hopefully put the fear of god in them). Got to the bottom, and they were aggressive, until I pointed out about the lack of lights and death.

Just got to basicly share the road.

At the end of the day there are some crap drivers out there, much like there are some crap cyclists and some crap pedestrians as well, like the numbnuck that decided to walk into the side of my car while i was doing about 6 mph, i know technically he has the right of way, but when looking out for a load of drunk people largely doing the unexpected i credited this one with the intelligence to notice that my car had passed him while h was stopped and didn't expect the muppet to walk into my door.

Was the bus lane actually active at that time? cars and vans can use bus lanes during certain hours of the day when they are deemed inactive. This information would be on a blue sign next to the bus lane.
Even if they did break the law by driving in a bus lane, YOU broke the law too by riding on the pavement to get your 'revenge' and placed yourself in a dangerous position. Its YOUR responsibility not to put yourself in danger. While you were getting yourself into this position the driver was probably looking to his right for oncoming traffic on the roundabout , totally unaware that you were sampling his paint on your handlebars.
Maybe leave home a little earlier so you can have a more relaxed ride to work, Remember better to be late than dead.

The bus lane was active, there was a long line of traffic patiently waiting in the correct lane.

When I cycled on the (empty) kerb to pass the inpatient car and van they were stationary and there was no danger to me or the car I sat infront of.
The only revenge I sought was to get infront of the impatent driver. That is the only thing i ever do. I do not key cars or extract revenge for someone driving dangerously, but if they hit me then I will tell them how I feel. After all they could easily kill me by such antics.
I exercise my right to be on the road and I will not be bullied by cars.

When I filter past cars to get closer to a roundabout I never go right to the front as they will be watching for traffic and could pull away at any time. I see some cyclists doing this which angers me. No one group are all angels.

Why am i the jerk hes the one who started it by knocking me off my bike. and he must have seen me ive got a back light and front light. It was about 10:40pm so it was a bit dark but u can clearly see me.
What annoyed me was when i landed on the ground he did get out of his car and i got up and he just shouted out "poo" (the other version) and got back in his car and done up the window so i couldnt talk to him.

doesn't excuse a deliberate criminal act though

Indeed, but when someone endangers your life you can understandably be upset and have a case of red mist. like one guy I know who was knocked down by a car, he took his cycling helmet off and threw it at the car leaving a dent! It made him a bit happier after the driver had written off his bicycle.

Not according to the highway code.

85-134: General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders <quote>This section should be read by all drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists. The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an accident.</quote>

Empty or not what you’ve done is illegal, the pavement is for pedestrians not impatient cyclists.

i agree you can be upset but the "red mist" shows a worrying lack of self control

I know this, i know the fine invlolved too. I am of the opinion that if I do it in a safe maner then there isn't a problem. The other week a pal was cycling on the pavement and 2 policemen apologised for being in his way.

It's OK if I drive my car on the pavement too then?... as long as it's in a saf manner?... don't make me laugh!

Its illegal for ANY circumstance... not "Illegal (unless it's in a safe manner)"

I cycle and drive (not at the same time!) and have never felt the need to cause criminal damage to any vehicle, what the problem here is, is that cyclists think they can get away with too much... running red lights... hopping onto pavements... damaging vehicles as well!

There should be a registration number type thing for bikes so the police can procecute a cyclist easier.

I drive to London every day and am subjected to some well mannered and sensible cyclists, but there are of course the arrogant 'I own the road' bunch.

Im a considerate driver and will always look out for the cyclist, however it really annoys me when pedestrians, cyclists and motor-cyclists have a 'holier-than-thou' attidute and expect to be treated like they're the only ones that matter on the road.

News-flash guys..Im in a car which is capable of killing you and have to watch out for everything else on the roads.

As an ex-biker im all for people taking responsibility of their own lives, and if that means a slightly longer journey, then so be it..why feel the need to take on over a ton metal and hoping that you'll come out ok? Its crazy.

OK, a lot of people have had negative experianec where they were the cyclist or the car driver. It's just to show that it works both ways, there are idiot cyclists and idiot car drivers, probably the same amount on either side, as has been said there are even idiotic pedestrians, motorcyclists and probably truck/van drivers!

With regards to riding on a pavement, i'm not sure if it's true so i'm hoping someone will clarify this, are you allowed to ride on a pavement if your wheels are 20inchs or less?

As cyclists are the scum of the roads I find it easier just to ignore their existance and drive accordingly.

No they're not, you're just typing sensationalist, exagerrated rubbish there to put it bluntly.

I can assure you there are a lot of very considerate cyclists on the roads, just as there are lots of considerate drivers.

I have come close to being knocked off my MTB so many times in my life I cant count them all, Women above 50 are the worst they never look and they pull out slower than a snail, if your going to pull out boot it.

I dont like it when there are cars parked on the road and i have to overtake these cars and the dirvers behind me get too close and think its ok to scare the poo out of me.

The fact im on a bike which will just be crushed by a car, a couple of years ago a guy in my village got knocked off his bike by a wagon and he fell under the wagon and it drove over his head, killed him instanly and he was wearing a helmit.

You would think car/van drivers would stop and think, I could seriosuly hurt them, they are too busy trying to get to point B in there lazy cars.
