Hit & run

I don't know yet InvG. I think if I do buy it back, I'll break it anyway. It's a pretty big project to get it back on the road and I know what you mean about it not feeling 'right'.

The car is not an import.

I've done my own "assesment" on it

The following need replacing:
Bonnet
Grille
Radiator
One of the plastic turbo pipes
Both headlamps
Both foglamps
Both indicators
Front bumper
Front splitter
Radiator
Front panel

I can supply the turbo pipe, front indicators and a radiator for free if you need one.

the inner wings etc., are bent so it'll be a project rather than a quick fix.
Not really, there is minor distortion to the leading edge of the passenger side inner wing cased by the front panel moving and the impact of the bumper bar. The damage is fore of the front panel not aft so it's of little consequence as the metal there doesn't really do a lot other than provide you with something to bolt the wing to.

In other words, I can fix it with a hammer darling :p It's the front panel that would be hardest as I'd have to drill out the spot welds and I expect a front panel will be relatively pricey (you'd need a brand new one really, not the sort of thing easily removed from another car)

For the overall cost of repairing it, would it not be cheaper to get another one...
If it was done by a garage, certainly. If I picked up the replacement bits second hand over time and the buyback was low enough then it would be worth doing DIY.

:) You're lovely. Thank you. I shall keep you updated with what happens. I may not even have the option to buy it back yet, so we'll just see.

No problems, even if you dont want it Im sure Leon will want it as a project car and theres always loads of breaking cars on sxoc so it shouldnt be a problem getting the parts you need cheaply enough. Its just it probably wont be the same again for you :( Hope you get something sorted again soon.

Awfully sorry to hear about your bad luck kate, that really is crappy. I guess you can just bad glad that no-one was injured and that of anyone who you could be with, Leon's a pretty damn useful guy to have around for this kind of thing - you may even get a cheap buyback deal and be seriously quids in :)

Awww thats gutting, there are so many uninsured drivers about these days I wonder why us law abiding citizens bother, especially as insurance companies act like retards when you try and do a legitimate claim. Hope you get it sorted out, and thankfully your ok. You should go to the doctor just to get checked out anyhow, even if you feel fine. Better safe than sorry.

Hope you get everything sorted.

Right.... I wonder if the s14a lump will fit into a volvo... or maybe a supra... :p

I like the drift idea though, it may be worth something if the buy back is low enough.

Sorry to hear about the accident - main thing is you're OK. Such a shame to see a nice car ruined :(

Gutted Kate :(

Any spannering you need just shout.

Shout that in a Norfolk direction too, two spannerers here happy to help :)

Phil said if we had all 3 cars on the road at the moment we'd be delivering you a nice Mk1 MR2 this weekend for your temporary driving pleasure :) (Unfortunately Sakura is still at the bodyshop :()

Lostkat - don't get too down hearted about this, happened to a mate of mine on the 27th May last year (the day after I got married!). Some nobber with no licence borrowing his mate's car. My mate got a hire car through helphire (Mazda 3 for his focus) and pootled around in that for nigh on 2 months until the owner's insurance paid out, actually giving him what he'd paid for it 20k miles previously, so I would reckon you'll get paid out with minimal hassle. Just make sure you have a NICE hire car - it's not your fault so you shouldn't be punished for it!

Thanks for the offers Llyr, Vix and Phil that's really kind of you. It would have been awesome driving a lego mobile to work and back!! Damn!!! DRZ has already offered me a "mint condition MK1, 1 lady owner etc." ;)

Oh, volospian - Yes I did used to work at Cat. Not anymore though. I moved to RR in Derby in May 2006. How time flies! :)

Wow, that was well remembered of me. God knows how I knew that :D

If you need any help with the rebuild (or engine swap ;)) give me a shout.

Cheers :)

Just rang insurance again to see what was going on, and was told that there were no notes on the system about me asking for it to remain on my property for the inspection by the loss adjuster. However, when I told her the name of the person I spoke to, suddenly she found a note saying that he had put the salvage collection "on hold". WTF?

This probably explains why absolutely nothing is happening. The lady I spoke to today informed me that the salvage yard HAS to take it before they can assess it. I told her that nobody is to remove it from my property. Why can't they take photos on my drive?

She's ringing me back within 3 hours to let me know what's going on. Any longer and I'm asking to speak to a manager. I'm sick of getting a different story from everyone I speak to. I'm trying to keep my cool with them, but it's very difficult.

This is when you find out exactly what your premium is buying you. There's cheap, and then theres awful :(

Sadly you really never know what it's going to be like until you need them.

They're taking the car :(

I rang and asked to speak to a supervisor today and he confirmed that there is no way salvage company can't look at it on my drive. I voiced my concerns about them breaking it before I'd even had an offer and he said that they are not authorised to touch it until Sainsburys instruct them.

If I want to buy it back, they would normally charge me for delivery. However, because I didn't need a recovery vehicle, he has authorised free delivery for me should I want it back.

I have his name/rank/number etc., should this all turn out to be complete rubbish and he assured me that he's noted it all down on the system.

I really don't think I can do any more. I've been waiting for someone to look at it for 3 days now and I need the payout to sort another car. I still can't believe there's no way for them to take photos of it on my drive, but what can I do? I've spoken to 4 people about this already and it's got nowhere :(
