Hitachi 1TB drives showing up in retail...

i've had , hmm, i guess somewhere in the region of 6 ibm/hitachi's, 25-30 maxtors, and 5-6 seagates, of which only 2 maxtors have gone, but those have easily been my longest used drives, and they died in a mannor that lost me no data and both drives i had replaced on the "you get your replacement first" basis and both of them were bigger drives, i think i got a 160gb for a 80gb, and i think a 500 for a 250gb. thats completely luck and what they have instock when you apply for rma though.

hitachi + raid 0 is just unbeatable, never seen any other drives match the base improvement in performance from ibms/hitachi drives.

also the anandtech review has been redone on a newer higher end system and the hitachi is basically better than the raptor, they are pretty close most of the time, but the hitachi wins pretty much overall on performance, then price/capacity factored in and its an easy choice. in the re-review hdtach gave it like 74mb/s sustained in single and 142mb/s sustained in raid. they've just always had the best firmware for raid 0 performance. WD used to suck and aren't so bad(apparently, only brand i've not raided), seagate used to need sending off to them for reflashed firmwares due to the utterly terrible raid0 performance from stock drives(this was a pretty long time ago) but they still aren't very good, samsung, never had a drive from them. maxtor are also pretty sweet in raid.

i missed the deathstar years, had a single gxp60 which was fine, a bunch of gxp 120's180's which were all fine and insanely fast.
