Hitman Benchmark

Gsync and Freesync don't work on DX12 AFAIK. Apparently running it in Windowed mode makes them work. :p

Try running it in "Fullscreen" instead of "Exclusive Fullscreen".

In DX12 it runs very nice and smooth.
...but occasionally it crashes. Screen freezes, sound goes on.

Ahh, ok. It's a known issue in Hitman with both Gsync and Freesync atm, probably requires AMD/Nvidia to patch it in a driver update.

Finally got it working. Reinstalled the latest beta drivers from Nvidia and set it to exclusive fullscreen. Gsync working now but still no DX12 so DX11 it will be I guess :)

DX12 working here but ouch on performance for both DX11 and DX12. 1440P with max settings results in around 24fps on a Titan X.

Here is the 1440P test with everything maxed (including 2xSS)

I get 18FPS on my 290X @ 1440p, and that's with VSR. :p

What do you get at 1080p, Greg? I get 32FPS. Super Sampling really hammers the GPU.

anywhere from 37 to 60. The game is V-Sync locked at 60 fps and sound can be messed up at times. I am sure they will patch it but DX12 working at least.

I deleted the last one as the timing was shocking for some odd reason but here is the 1080P and with a decent overlay of fps.

Hi all,

Think i have found a few issues that may help people out, might be worth someone else checking see what the impact is to them,

First there seems to be a mistake in the settings menu outside the game compared to the in game one,

If you pick exclusive full screen outside the game its in fact just full screen, if you pick exclusive full screen in the game it changes the outside setting to full screen, might help with freesync as it appears to be working for me in DX12 as im not getting any tearing.

In short pick full screen in the outside menu..

Second on the DX12 menu at the bottom is render target resuse, if i set that to disable i get about a 5 fps boost and it feels no different...see what ya think,

Also noticed if i turned down shadow options down to medium it removed that small hitch in the game, noticed it in greg's dx12 part of the vid as well

Mini update

I had not run the DX11 test until now, had to turn off crossfire completely to even get it to run, (not sure what profile AMD added in 16.3 but it seems to do nothing good), with the same settings i use at DX12 its about 13FPS slower than DX12, so a win for me on DX12.

Settings

DX12
1440p
Vsync off
Vsync interval 1 (100%)
Super Sampling 1
Level of detail High
Anti-aliasing SMAA
Texture Quality High
Texture Filter 16x
SSAO On
Shadow Map Medium
Shadow Res Medium
Render target Disabled

get about 73avg FPS in Bench and it runs nice and smooth in game, this is on a 290

HITMAN BENCHMARK 1080P

: 290 DX11 min fps 52
: 290 DX12 min fps 53

: 390 DX11 min fps 52
: 390 DX12 min fps 59

SOURCE

Notice the R9 290 series doesn't really seem to benefit from DX12, but the 390 series does yet they are more or less the same card. My questions are, is AMD reducing performance on the 290 series to edge us users towards an upgrade? And to justify the blatant 390 series "rebrand"?

They kept the Tess improvements for the 300 series only (Witcher 3), until we, AMD users, noticed. AMD also currently reserve better VSR support of the 300 series, despite them using the exact same scalar and hardware.

Think you need to re-look at how the data has been made before going down that road, they are not using the in game bench for starters, i.e the one we have all been using... Also they are using a small area of the map with a limited 40secs of data vs the somewhat long in game bench which covers lots of different areas.

using the in game bench i clearly see a massive jump (13 FPS) going from DX11 to DX12, this is on the same 290 card they use on that website with an I5 ivybridge

Just been running the bench again to re-check my results and ran some more ultra settings and something odd is going on,

At 1440p max settings (with super sample 1) the difference between DX11 & 12 is only 4fps, however as i said before i notice a hitch in the run on both modes, something that would do my head in whilst playing...

but by turning down both shadow map & res to medium it removes that hitch (thank Jebus), however the gap between DX11 & 12 starts to get much bigger with everything else the same, it appears with less overall detail being chosen for some reason DX12 starts pulling away for DX11,

Think I will buy this title once my moniter is back. Will be interesting to see how my nano fairs against my Titan x's.

Could be a good showing by the wee little nano, think I will both laugh and cry at the result :D

I have to say, even though the Framerate is (according to Steam FPS counter) higher in DX11, DX12 is much smoother when playing

But DX12 causes my game to freeze randomly and the sound carries on :(
