Hmmm. What to replace the RS with?

Test drive a VX220 turbo , luggage space is a little less, but more than made up for in the drivers reward.

afaik he's driven a new shape ST, it lacks the turn in / feel that he likes about the RS (the new ST is actually faster than the RS iirc too :))

How about a forester? They look great IMO and certainly not a common car :)

Tom.

Again, you try finding a STi Forrester for his £15k budget! You cant, and Ive been looking for 3 months! I had a drive in one of these about 4 months ago and cant get it out of my system. Its one of the reasons Im looking to by a WRX Scooby because I loved the sound.

but the OP wants to spend £15k, not close to £30k.

For an off the wall suggestion how about the MG ZT 260. Rear drive, V8 burble, more than a decent enough boot and not exactly common. Cheap as well due with a vertical initial depreciation curve.

if you're considering a 3 series for boot space then consider a focus st, much rarer, I certainly get a lot of attention with mine and it will demolish a 330ci.

I had a test in an RS before I got my ST and where I found the RS heavy and hard going I found the ST incredibly docile when you want it to be, stick your foot down though and they shift.. I mean really shift. Obviously not quite as fast as the RS but a whole heap more substantial.

I'll sell you mine lol.. I want something that does more than 24mpg because I do 30k a year and the 4 times a week fuel stops are getting a bit tedious.

The boots rubbish on the ST, well mine is anyway, barely get my golf clubs in at an angle, cant even get my trolley on top of that.

The RS i believe may have less power, but its quicker to 60, and is more agile as it doesnt have the huuge 2.5 upfront. But its not as refined.

He is after replacing his Rs since its poor on longer trips and he needs to go away for the week / weekend he can pack stuff in it.

How is a VX220 even close to the right answer?

Although I don't personally like the 350Z's, it seems to fit you're bill quite well.

However, I'd be leaning towards the Alfa route myself probably.

They're mental. I got a ride in a friend's on the way/way back from a RR with another forum.

Going sideways in a tarted up Rover gets some looks, I can tell you :D

I think he paid around £13k for his... 8,000 miles on the clock.

Nearly new Golf GTi (Selling my wifes if you want one ;) )
Nearly new Scooby
Nearly new Focus ST
Not nearly new E46 M3 (BM3W, see you there!)
Not nearly new 330 Coupe or 330d Coupe
MX5 with hard top
New Alfa 156
Not nearly new Audi S4 (Maybe even an older RS4)

Starter for 10, there are LOADS of nice motors with 15k in your back pocket!

Slightly leggier ones are around 10K. They supercharge nicely as well, 385bhp in what is probably the ultimate Q car  :D :D

Use of the word 'playing' is stretching the truth tbh.

Even i didnt play golf, id still want to have a semi decent boot install, but even that aint gonna happen :(

bah

speakers are for max power chavs ;)

HI there

2005 Mustang GT V8. Search and you might get lucky and find one around that money but its gonna be hard, cheapest at moment are 18k ish for V8's. The V6 is not worth bothering with as its underpowered. This car really does fit all your criteria, only issue is finding one for 15k.

Gets my vote

It ticks most of the boxes, Space, Rarity, Torque, Reliability

those big V8s arent complicated machines and the yanks are renowned for their long service intervals. Their also renowned for their big V8s with lots of torque and their aversity to gear changes.

plus being LHD only they're very rare. and tons of prescence. And if your not spending that much time on the b roads, the slightly vague on limit handling wont bother you.
