When Liverpool go back down to mid table this year without Suarez and being back back in the CL, maybe Rodgers might want it? :p

The margins are so fine in football, doubly so during a World Cup. Had Saurez taken longer to recover from surgery, had Godin been sent off or any numbers of other factors gone our way then we wouldn't be having this discussion. No-one remembers that we fluked our way to the semi-finals in 1990. All they remember is the result. Bobby Robson is a hero, Hodgson is seemingly a villan.

We don't have any world class players at the moment, players with the ability to change games on their own. Look at our squad and compare them to who we had 5-10 years ago. We're worse in practically every position, especially key positions like centre back.

Blaming Hodgson for the state of English football is incredibly unfair. At least he seems to have some kind of long-term plan.

I'm not sure whether he should stay or go, but I do think our passing/pressing has improved under Hodgson, but feel he lacks the attacking knowledge to convert that into goals.

He is also now in the difficult position of having to build a new midfield with Gerrard and Lampard retiring. Looking around there doesn't seem to be a great deal of choice, and in a lot ways, regardless who is the manager, England are probably going to be worse for a while.

To be fair, his attacking knowledge is fine, its the players that are not converting them into goals. Moreover he has been hamstrung quite badly by the lack of quality centre backs and defenders. Defensively England have been terrible and were prone to getting opened up like a tin of Tuna by any half decent attack

In addition to the point I made earlier I just find him boring as well. For example you never see him animated on the touchline during games or showing any character. Capello for example was hilarious to watch. I don't remember the camera even looking at Hodgson at all during any of these world cup games. We need someone like the Mexico manager who actually looks like he's a part of the team rather than a stuffy old boss.

if England hammered Italy and Uruguay and were in the next round you wouldn't say the same thing.

I'm beginning to think it doesn't really matter who the manager is.

exactly. Its like having the world greatest teacher trying to teach a classroom full of feral children who don't want to learn, it makes no difference at all to the outcome, appart from of course the potential to lose a good teacher through disillusion of the profession.

The same thing applies for England, good managers get sacrificed because of players with over inflated egos who think they are world class, when they are in fact crap.

I think the point is that you're criticising Hodgson for utterly irrelevant reasons.

Not really. I watch football to be entertained. For example Chelsea are now much more entertaining to watch because of Jose's antics on the touchline. If people warm to a manager, the public in general will give them more time. Are you saying that you don't think charisma and enthusiasm are important attributes for a football manager?
