*** Holidays & Travels 2023 Thread ***

For some sheets and giggles I googled

London - Singapore
Singapore - Taipei
Taipei - Seoul or Tokyo
Seoul or Tokyo - London...

£1170

I am so tempted....

Have just come back from my best holiday ever. Did a safari trip to South Africa visiting the Kruger National Park area and already thinking about returning asap. The excitement to be so up close and personal with the animals is crazy. Been pretty lucky to have been on some great holiday's, but this definitely tops the lot for me. Couple of pics i managed to take out of 1000's, that still need sorting.

Full day 1 in Antigua and it’s my birthday!

How much did this cost Antigua looks so amazing is this a package deal.

Id love to solo travel Antigua dont really want a couples resort though, they sure look amazing.

Off to Helsinki myself next Thursday for 5 nights anyone got any tips places to see, restaurants etc? pretty much have an itineary just going to go with the flow.

Awesome, lovely shots!

South Africa really is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, I can't recommend it enough. You need to plan before hand though and not find yourself in any dodgy areas. If you ever go again and need some pointers, give me a shout, I grew up there and still go regularly. This is where we stayed in December:

And yes, we did the usual safari stuff, including seeing the king of the jungle :p

thanks, may take you up on that offer one day. Our trip was organised through Newmarket Holidays, so everything was sorted and we didn't have to really plan anything other then turn up when we was told to. It felt good doing it that way as a first time visit to South Africa / Kruger. We stayed outside Kruger at a place called Camp Bethel near Hoedspruit, but have already talked about staying inside Kruger on the next visit.

We are staying at St James’ Club and there are singles here, and it’s quite quiet as it’s end of season. I’d come here on my own but the Mrs would kill me! I can’t remember what day it is anymore.

Cost for 2 of us, Club World and best rooms 8.5k for 7 nights if that helps (BA holidays). You’ll love it here - I think this is our 8th visit to the island. Never stayed anywhere bad.

We start off saying in Kruger and then spend a couple of days outside, usually around Hoedspruit at somewhere a bit more luxurious. We book everything ourselves, it's easy enough. Happy to give some pointers if you want.

On our most recent trip (August 2022) we spent 14 days in Kruger. Starting at Berg-en-Dal and then gradually moving up north spending our last night at Punda Maria. After leaving Kruger we spent 2 nights at Little Africa Safaris. I took my favourite photo of the trip on our final early morning drive at Little Africa. There's no zoom being used here, the lions are about 2m away.

thats something like we have talked about doing upon on our return. Maybe not as high as Pundra Maria, probably go in south and do Crocodiles bridge, Lower-Sabie, Satara and come out via Orpen Gate.
We did actually do a morning drive and an evening drive at Khaya Ndlovu which was great. As good as Kruger really is, i liked the more personal up close experience that Khaya Ndlovu could provide. Going off track to hunt and explore animals/birds/plants was a really great experience.

When we go back we probably won't go all the way up to Punda Maria, probably just as far as Olifants. On the plus side the roads and camps are much quieter up north but we definitely saw a lot less animals too.

Make sure you have reasonable expectations if you stay at the main rest camps. The accommodation is basic but they've always been clean and comfortable. I know several people that have gone there expect luxury and ended up disappointed.

Crocodile Bridge and Orpen don't have restaurants but I think all the others do. Lower Sabie gets booked up very quickly and hopefully by the time you're there it'll have a petrol station - the previous one burnt down and it was being rebuilt when I was there in August.

The game drives you can book at the camps are well worth doing. We did a mixture of early morning, evening and night drives. We will definitely do more of them, probably just morning and night drives though.
