*** Holidays & Travels 2023 Thread ***

France for skiing in Feb
Porto for a friend's 40th in April
Norway wild camping with a friend in June
Italy with the OH in September (yet to book)
And definitely looking to go away for Christmas after this year's...

Sure there'll be a weekend break somewhere else as well.

Jan - Brussels long weekend
Feb - Copenhagen conference + long weekend
Mar - Cornwall long weekend
May - Paris long weekend
Summer - TBC but likely Bretagne
October - Mauritius 2 weeks

Feb/March - Lanzarote 10 days - booked
August - Austria, Slovakia and possibly a short trip to Poland as well ~10days - not booked yet
December likely to go Vienna and Slovakia again for few days to see family and friends before Xmas, longish weekend - not booked yet

Might also do Cornwall or Scotland in July before school holiday start

No dates set in stone yet.

France
Cyprus
We were thinking of going to see the family in Malaysia but we may defer that to next year.

Probably only do 3 abroad holidays this year as traveling with 2 children makes it expensive!

Never really felt like it to be honest. Having 5 kids to take along wouldve made it pretty expensive as well - although having said that Butlins can be a bit pricey if they all came along
Yes it's tough with just 2, can't imagine the chaos of 5!

I still couldn't imagine not travelling though - but it's been baked into me from birth so I have a different view on it of course!

Have mentioned previously, but off to Spain in March for 3 months to get a feel for what it's like to live/work over there ahead of a permanent move. God bless home working becoming common everywhere.

Likely the only travels of the year, as once we get back it'll be a case of getting the house ready to sell and saving as much as we can.

Going to Majorca in July and Florida in August.

The Florida holiday has cost us just short of 16k for 6 of us, madness really but you only get what you pay for.

I went last year after delaying it for 2yrs due to covid. It started off originally at around £8k. By the time we went last july it was around 11k for 3 of us and that was flying into Miami. into Orlando would have been an additional 3k..

Absolute madness.

After the really high prices for the summer holidays we decided to look last minute.

However, got a great deal on a P&O cruise in the Caribbean for december, so we're doing our first ever cruise..

I have to say long haul flights have gone up a lot - 40% or 50% IIRC.

Got New York booked for the start of May - our favourite place and the British Airways sale allowed the outbound flight in First and the return in Business with a decent hotel for a good price.

We started this year with 2 weeks in the Maldives, and filled last year with Vancouver (technically the end of 2021 and COVID), Mykonos and Iceland. All of these used Avios for the flights as part of the BA Executive Club, and with a bit of planning, effort and flexibility (not easy for those with kids I admit) it's amazing what you can do.
If anyone wants for tips or advice for any of these locations, please don't hesitate to PM me - more than happy to help.

And if you want to know how I got into the whole premium travel malarchy, there's a story here that won me a free bottle of champagne...

I know you are using Avois...but rough estimate, how many points are we talking about and what is the out of pocket cost because NYC in First/Business Class can't be cheap. Maldives is not cheap, Iceland is not cheap.

I know everything is relative but...rough number per person? NYC/Iceland?

It must be about £30k in holidays there you listed?
