Home Assistant beginners

Didn't find Homelable mentioned in this thread so here you go....

I'm pretty crap at network diagrams but this addon makes it very easy
It also maps out your zigbee network but I haven't got round to that

Sorry my effort is WiP but you get the idea

I've just installed Neonplan3d from hacs
It lets you build a 3d plan of your house within home assistant
It's really easy to use and has some great features
I'm currently running it on my wall tablet and it looks superb
It's free but there are paid addons if you need them, ie extra furniture etc
It's well worth taking a look at

So the one thing lacking with EchoMuse is synchronisation .... I did try adding it to a music assistant group but when playing radio the players are not in sync

I might just go bleeding edge after seeing this

I got impatient of waiting so decided to install the early access version and wow sendspin works beautifully

Both echos play perfectly in sync ... happy days !

Have you set up local voice assistant? This isn’t something I’ve looked into too hard due to a lack of time but my brief dipping of the toe indicated it either wasn’t great or I was missing something

Yup all working perfectly out of the box ... barge in works, arbitration works and everything can be fine tuned if needed

To be very honest, I'm more pleased with the performance than the stock Amazon firmware

@Subliminal Aura I've got one hooked up running emOS and added to HA nicely. Just about to do the other one now.

My pipeline is a bit of a mess it seems, detects the wake word and shows in HA but doesn't return a response.

What setup do you run?

Hi,

After adopting the echo in the HA addon, the addon creates a virtual voice assistant device.

HA should automatically detect it but you need to add it to HA via settings>devices

Sorted. I flashed the other one and it worked fine. Local processing working, I can turn the immersion heater on/off lol. I am pleased. :D

Now to see what's wrong with the other one, I think it's something hardware related, hopefully it's just the 3.5mm jack.

Nice one... which version are you using - stable or early access ?

I've been reading through some of the open issues on github and there are reports of 3.5mm issues during connection and disconnection

Looks promising, I'd like to put one together but after minimal faff.

This is what ****** me off about Home Assistant

Updates either break something or there's an unwanted change

I decided to update to 2026.10.0 and got bit by this

Fortunately there's a patch that has been merged in for the next release but overall it's inconveniencing

Wife approval was waning after Home Assistant started falling out with a Zigbee door sensor so I had to do something to re-gain it.

I knocked up an automation that will turn on the kitchen under cupboard lights if either of us comes home between dusk & dawn. The way the house is laid out those lights are fine for illumination when you come in through the front door and are great for me not tripping over any shoes that my wife has abandoned between the front door and a light switch.

Approval, for now, is granted.

@Subliminal Aura Have you got music streaming to your EchoMuse'd Dots? Or is that what you're waiting for with SendSpin?

It says supported on the Github repo, but I'm struggling to get them to appear as targets in Music Assistant.

Music streaming works out of the box on the stable firmware just search for your media_echodot...... device in HA, it should be automatically created when you add the echo dot as a voice assistant

I went with the early access firmware as I wanted multiroom synced media using sendspin instead of the default HA media player device... In this instance there's no HA media device .... Instead you connect the echo dot to music assistant as a sendspin device... you can optionally expose the MA player to HA to use too if you wish

Anyone for building your own software on the echo ? :D

Bash:
sub_a@l337b:~/.../go/emOS$ vi main.go
sub_a@l337b:~/.../go/emOS$ env GOOS=linux GOARCH=arm GOARM=7 go build -o emos-hello main.go
sub_a@l337b:~/.../go/emOS$ file emos-hello
emos-hello: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, EABI5 version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, BuildID[sha1]=b3c2263a32020c234b06e759d3f0a27a8a16da59, with debug_info,
not stripped
sub_a@l337b:~/.../go/emOS$ ./emos-hello
-bash: ./emos-hello: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

Transfer the binary to the echo and run it
