Home Assistant beginners

There is a Tapo 4 way socket lead, that gives per socket reporting.
It is matter though for the connectivity. I don't want matter.

Tapo P304M Smart Plug Power Strip, 4 Outlets Matter WiFi Plug Extension

I have one of these in my shed

Talking of which ... what integration are you using for your P110's and P304M

I had some issues and in the end have them split over 2 integrations which is not ideal

It was working perfectly before but issues crept in for some reason as integrations got upgraded over time

I need to restart the integration everytime the power strip is powered on

Long story short which integration and version numbers are you guys using ?

This is what I'm using. Had to use 2 also, to get multiple working.

The official Tapo only gives 3 sensors. (ignore the Octopus listings, that is stuff I created to work out costs in electric usage)

But the 3rd party app gave these.

The thing about ZigBee is that when it goes down ... it goes down in a horrid way

Right out of the blue, without warning, without any changes whatsoever I'm getting

Failed to perform the action light/turn_off. Failed to send request: Failed to send request: <Status.MAC_CHANNEL_ACCESS_FAILURE: 225

Honestly can't be arsed to fix it, going out instead

This was my power use yesterday, quite good info. I need to add my TV in the living room, my oven, my airfryer & Toaster, maybe even the fridge-freezer and the bedroom TV. Think that will be 99% of stuff.

Wish Philips hue bulbs had the ability to output energy use too, that way I could monitor them as a whole too.

If you tapped on the PC power usage bar, does it give you the exact wattage used? Does this reset every 24 hours?

Its become a bit of an obsession of mine trying to remove all of the Unknown consumption on my energy dashboard! Slowly but surely everything that uses a lot of electricity is getting monitoring plugs fitted :P That being said it does show up some shocking information....

My Unifi setup (USG Fibre, 24 Enterprise, and 2 x 6E Enterprise, plus 2 Dell SFFs, and 6 CCTV cameras is using 7.5kwh a day! Thankfully I have solar and cheap overnight electricity but I had no idea it was using that much.

My 24/7 network setup is ~ 65W

The tapo is connected to this modest setup...

1 x UPS
1 x ONT
1 x OpenWRT router
1 x 2.5g managed switch
1 x 1g managed POE switch
4 x PoE cameras
1 x mini PC (proxmox (main services failover router/HA/frigate/development LXC))
1 x mini PC (proxmox/pbs/failover router ondemand for baclups)

Oh wow! Yeah my setup is obviously not the most efficient it seems.

The 2 Dell SFFs are i7-11700s so thats likely not helping, I do plan to retire atleast one of them at some point.

Seems im peaking over 400w at times! I do use AI to analyse the CCTV images so that is likely heavily loading one of the Dells.

Frigate on CPU or actual LLMs ?
I forgot to mention I have frigate running on the mini PC using an m.2 coral however I believe Frigate are now promoting openvino > coral these days

Talking of which frigate recently released version 0.18 - anyone upgraded ?

Its a BlueIris setup so its now running the native AI, but yes against the CPU. No GPU installed currently.

I was going to say ' Lets help bring this guy into the 21st century '

But with a quick read this comment interests me

The flaw in my setup is that I FTP camera footage to the server which is far from ideal when trying to review any footage outside of what Frigate has picked up (The storage footprint is huge too)

Haven't tried BlueIris in donkey's years - will have to revisit

Its still very actively developed and all of the AI elements are now integral rather than relying on extra software. Its been working quite well for me so far!

Definitely worth looking at again in my opinion.

Is there much load on Home Assistant if you feed in RTSP feeds? Not that I have any use for the camera feeds myself Unifi does offer them up.

I have my doorbell feeding in via RTSP to one of my dashboards and it doesn't seem to have any discernible load or effect on HA performance!

But then I also have a 360w load on my house IT setup so perhaps im not the best to comment :P
