Home Assistant beginners

anyone know where to start with triggering HA automations from google home speakers?
The last time I looked at it, you had to create a switch / button helper so that it shows as a compatible device in Google Home and then you can trigger that via voice with an appropriate automation. Or you can create switch groups / light groups if you just want to handle a bunch of devices all at once with a single command.

I'd be interested in this...

Kind of, it's not an automation you want, it'll be a script. The Home App automation creator has changed and appears to have removed the option to call a scene but you can get around this by doing this:

  1. Tap (+) in the top right
  2. Tap Automation
  3. Tap the 3 dots in the top right
  4. Tap Previous household editor
  5. Scenes are available under: Add action > Adjust Home Devices > (scroll to bottom) Add scenes
  6. Choose your script to run.
  7. Choose your starter option

If all the devices are google home compatible (e.g. lights, switches, thermostat) then this is definitely a nice way to do it!

Anyone had any luck with the kasa L530 RGB light integration into HA?

Those are tapos right?

I used this HACS integration for my l530

Works well up until the point the bulbs decide to go back into pairing mode which happened to me twice, I didn't investigate why this was happening but think it could be a fault with my DHCP settings

Yes you can BUT each controller has to be tied to a different Zigbee “server”. In my own case I was moving from ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT so I plugged in the new coordinator, hooked it up to Z2M and the proceeded to remove devices from ZHA and add them to Z2M. I did this over a day or two.

If you want to have two coordinators linked to one instance of ZHA or Z2M then you’re out of luck. It’s probably possibly but likely to be painful.
Thanks.
Sounds like I need to remove all devices then so they are then free to pair again.
Then swap coordinators and add everything back in after configuring it to the channel I want.

From what I have read i don't think the migration tool will work and allow channel changing otherwise that would be super easy.

They dont need to all be compatiable with Google Home as Google Home is only calling a script in Home Assistant. All of the work is done in the script, not Google Home.

I like this device, some useful tools and settings.

Oh! I have to have a look into that then, must have changed since I last looked at the integration, sounds much easier!

I've just had a look and I can't see exposed scenes or automations, weird. I'll have to have a bit of a deeper look!
Google Home call them scenes but it'll be a script made in HA that is exposed (automations and scene from HA dont show in Google Home either). The new updated automation creator in Google Home doesn't show scenes as an option under actions. Do this to show them:

  1. Tap (+) in the top right
  2. Tap Automation
  3. Tap the 3 dots in the top right
  4. Tap Previous household editor
  5. Scenes are available under: Add action > Adjust Home Devices > (scroll to bottom) Add scenes
  6. Choose your script to run.
  7. Choose your starter option

Thanks I'll check it out. We're you able to set RGB colours or a simple toggle on off?

I didn't pick up a ton of stuff from Ikea, partly because there wasn't much choice left, but also, there really isn't much I need. Pointless buying loads that will sit unused. Still, my first ever Ikea smart devices, really impressed with the quality.

You can find blueprints for most of the IKEA switches to make it easier to map the various buttons to actions. I have the STYRBAR in all rooms and used a blueprint to assign lights on, off, brightness by holding the button, temperature bu holding etc. There are many options and dont have to be used for lights either.

You can also assign conditions within the blurprints for time so if you press the buttons at a certain time, they do differnet actions such as lower brightness early in the morning compared to the rest of the day.

Which blueprint did you use mate?

Thanks, look forward to trying it out later

Thanks mate. Do you need to link anything up before hand? I read something about a £5 payment for the Google API?

I've not paid anything for it. You just link HA from within the Google Home app. You do have to setup the integration first though https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/google_assistant/

If you use nabu casa, it's much easier but it can be done without this follwing the instrcutions to set all up in google dev console.

Thanks for the thread will have a read. Started looking into it last night as I’ve been playing with ESP32 boards, LED strings and WLED and saw that you can integrate with Home Assistant.
