Home brewing kits ....

Is that £7.99 for 23 plastic bottles? I've got access to about 100 glass bottles, but so far I've already broken the tops of 3 of them putting caps on. Tempted by plastic ones for the simplicity and safety if I accidentally make a bottle bomb.

Yeah that's the ones :)

I will have to have a play with my capper then before I attempt a full one. As I've said before I've been buying 3 bottles of grolsh per week for £5 from asda and hording the bottles. They go for such stupid amounts on ebay that even if I find this homebrew stuff isn't for me I could flog the bottles for almost the cost of buying them in the first place!

Hammer cappers and caps are fairly easy but I would always do it in a washing up bowl or similar as you can get weak bottles and 500ml of liquid sure does go a long way on your kitchen floor lol.

I'm kinda tempted by some plastic bottles or just going for grolsch ones.

What i really want is some 250ml bottles with screw tops or grolsch style, struggling to find any.

Woohoo, ordered my coopers kit.

Got it from tesco in the end as i got a discount code for £10 for new customers which took it inline with the shop posted above, mainly because i wanted the standard lager first before i venture on to other and the web shop didn't list it.

I pick it up tomorrow from the direct desk, very excited!

The more I see those fermenting bins with the tap on the bottom, the more I want one.

Everything about using a syphon is a PITA. Needs 2 people to use it, pita to use, pita to clean, pita when your assistant lets air into it, just generally a right bugger.

Buy a tap for about a £1 and fit it. I didn't even use a drill last time. Just a pen to draw the round hole and a scalpel to cut it.
They are very usefull, especially when combined with a bottler.

Good luck let me know how it goes. I took my time sanitizing the gear the first time, but it goes say it's pre done for the first use. So you can just rinse in water.

I did it anyway as I thought I might as well learn now :)

My aim is to eventually make something along the lines of warsteiner or bitburger. I think that may be some years off :D

Do you need a tap and a bottler, or does the top of the bottler form the tap? Bought a Little Bottler anyway.

Looking forward to getting the brew going and enjoying my first cold pint of homebred, been looking at hops and what they do for your brew and they seem reasonable online, 100g for around £3. Thinking of getting a couple and doing some dry hopping some of my first batch.

Comes with one. Just a case of cutting a hole in the side of my fermenting bin then I take it?

Yep, just take your time and do a proper job, you will need a couple of adjustable scanners which fit, to make sure it's tight enough.

Cheers. I'll give that a go when it turns up and then I think I'm going to start that raspberry and lime cider linked a while back for a nice summer brew.

Bottled my second turbo tonight. 51 pints of cider sat in the bath. Can't wait! I get to start on the Black Rock stuff next weekend :)

How does everyone keep there brews at the correct temps? my house is pretty erratic for temperatures and the nights are still pretty chilly.

Looking around it seems a fish tank heater would be the easiest and cheapest solution. There is one on the high street for £10, 100w, but all the pictures i find of them show the temp gauge starting at 20 degrees, i was under the impression 18 was the ideal number so are these appropriate?
