Home brewing kits ....

i thought about a coopers one but it is going to work out far to expensive for what is basically spare parts. ill make do with the airlock, its just another seal design that will do the same job.

best is though 2 WILL turn into 3 :D

well i may well get some of that after my coopers real ales done after my st peters - smells lovely in the FV i must say.

my special has been bottled for 3 wks now and looking clear so i may try and see what it's like this weekend. if it's ****, bin and straight on with the real ale then cerveza. do i need more experience to brew cerveza?

also, can you use milton sterilising fluid to sterilize and its a lot cheaper. and i have a massive bottle of it which i use for my MTB water bladders.

Dont use the milton fluid. Its just expensive bleach and will cling and not rinse off. The tablets are fine to use.

cheers.
i tested my special cheap kit brew last night and very palatable. the bottle, plastic, have what looks like the white sugar still at the bottom but it was very gassy and tasted half decent. little cloudy but could see through it. not sediment at all.

Thats yeast at the bottom. Dont worry about it. Just leave an inch or less at the bottom when you are pouring. When you bottle beers you will always have this. Some yeasts stick to the bottom better than others. Nottingham will stick well. US05 wont.

Looking into it again and 24 plastic bottles are a tenner, so the ones that come in the kit are worth £20+. Another brew/enhancer and carb drops is another £20+. £15+ for the FV, might as well just buy another coopers kit for £59?

How quickly I burnt through my cerveza I think I'm going to need a second for the winter atleast, what with the amount of FV time a lager yeast needs :)

I like the coopers fv no airlock and a tap already fitted which is very easy to clean.
I will take a look at the plastic bottles :)

I wish I had a pub near me that sold grolsch so I could take their bottles:D

I find Grolsch bottles too small, 450mi iirc, losing quite a bit to the sedement. Over time I built up a selection of beer bottles ;) I also asked a local pub to keep back their Magners bottles ( 1 pint ) cos there were only throwing them away anyway.
A capper is under a tenner and the caps are cheap as chips.

Aye, i ordered some of the glass bottles and the bag of sugar suggested

Getting a head of myself, the only thing im a bit worried about at the moment is syphon into the bottles and not disturbing the sediment to get a really clear beer

The beer won't clear until it's been in the bottle for a number of weeks anyway. Syphoning won't disturb disturb the sediment until the very end of the bottling so don't worry about that.

I have had so very little sediment in both my brews I'm leaving so little in the bottles :) even that is hard compacted.

I have about 60 500ml warsteiner bottles to use as well, 50 grolsch and the 45 plastic ones that came with my kit.

So I have enough for 3 complete brews to be bottled but with conditioning time I could do with another 40 odd :D I like the ease of the swing tops though.

There are swing top converters that convert standard bottles to swing tops. They apparently work very well and if you are getting your bottles free from your pub will be a cheap solution. Still haven't had the time to brew myself, I have an all grain and a kit ipa to do but just so much on at work :(

After ordering my Coopers Mexican Cerveza kit last night, i was doing some research and it seems a few people mention they haven't got it very fizzy.. i was wondering if there is any tips on how to ensure i get the correct fizzyness in my first brew?
