I loved Homeworld,
To me Homeworld 1 had more depth of strategy than 2, I prefered the seperate ships for gravwells and cloaks, rather than ship modules. Both very good games, still mission 2 Adagio in G, a true game defining moment. HW2 never had that scene, and never made you feel for it the same way.
Homeworld 2, had a very clever level balancing technique, and missions would set there difficulty based on your fleet and resources. This was becuase salvage corvettes where abused royally in HW1. Anybody else steal the entire frigate fleet in that massive ball in HW1?
Problem was mission 3, if you had nabbed everything, and stolen everything you could from missions 1 and 2, you kind of borked the level adjusting. As it through stuff at you, that fighters couldnt deal with. A patch did fix that. So strangely enough if you had been really epically good at levels 1 and 2, the third mission was a nightmare. If you muddled through, like I did, mission 3 was **** easy. There you go, you where always told dont steal.
Sleepery, they did that becuase I think it should auto collect everything left over for you. There really was no need to sit around 5-10 minutes without doing anything.
Just get the patch.
Yep Relic have now reacquired the HW licence, and we can hope, they get number 3 out. It will probably take a few years though.
Homeworld 2 I think was also not using the game engine that they wanted to create for it. Which would have looked more impressive and coped with a lot more, in the end they used the impossible creatures engine.
Nexus I loved, very similar to homeworld, but what made me like Nexus was it was small fleet combat. You got to concentrate on a small range of ships, and customize them. Different end of the scale and I would love to see somethng similar to it again. I actually hated the Angelwing, it was the uber all powerful ship. I could ditch most of the fleet and use the Angelwing, instead of using the other ships to cover each other. Think it would have been better if toned down, didnt auto heal itself.
Nexus was a game that was created out of what was going to be the sequel to, Imperium Galactica. I think they ran out of money, and the combat engine was turned into Nexus.
