Homeworld 3!!!!!! Well kinda.. :)

So played a few missions last night. Initial thoughts:

1) I don't think the Unity engine was the right choice for this. Some of the essence of the original Homeworld games have been lost as a result. I appreciate that it would've been unwise to stick to an engine developed 1) for 3D space battles, and 2) over a decade old, but I can't help but feel that the game has detracted from the original look/feel.

2) It doesn't support 3440 x 1440 resolution, 1900 x 1200 is the max res for me which is a shame because the Remastered Homeworld played happily at 3440 x 1440. Again, probably down to the engine rather than the game itself. I've tried to have a fiddle with the config files but it reverts back to 1900 x 1200 when the game launched. Shame really.

3) I like the "hit n run" tactics employed by the enemy. On hard mode it certainly provides a challenge when navigating sand dunes and trying to get a vantage point over the enemy.

4) The cutscenes are cool. They've given the oldschool cutscenes a new vibe whilst giving a good "nod" back to the old ways.

5) I wish, really wish, you could zoom out more. Ok so there's the navigation screen but why can't we have a wider view of what's going on? If the "epicness" of Homeworld is to be retained, surely we'll want to witness a larger scope of the battlefield?

Will be playing it more and eventually multiplayer as well. I think the storyline has a lot to offer and with us following the S'Jet kith we're sure to be in for a treat :)

Hmm, was waiting to here the verdict from people. My main monitor is 2560x1600 and if it won't run that res that's a dealbreaker for me :/

I finished this this morning.

The main story campaign is one of the best experiences I've had in a single player RTS games for some time, they have successfully managed to capture much of the charm of the original homeworld games & I'm surprised at how well they've managed to pull it off considering it's on the ground.

Combined arms are very important in this game, there is no 1 unit spam to win which will reliably work (this makes a nice change) - there is also no pause (which in part I find very annoying, but also makes the micro management a much higher skill cap even for single player).

The ship breaking, tech upgrades, research & development side are all great - the carrier power management is a nice touch & adds yet another level.

The game on medium starts off very easy & slowly increases in difficulty right up until the last mission or so where it's easy to get destroyed if you make a few silly mistakes.

Overall I'm pleased with the purchase, the cinematic style is fantastic along with the main story. One thing this does give is me hope for a true Homeworld 3 by the same developers using the new engine set in space, with lessons learned from the previous games.

Nice a need a good rts to play with now :D

O.o

Time for some sleep now then? :p
I play games very quickly, objective to objective, some missions you can complete earlier than intended if you have a nice big army from the other missions.

Overall it took me about 7 hours to complete the main story, but I'm pretty sure it will last longer for people who play less robotically!.

Played it last night go upto mission 5, I am playing it at 2560x1440 on ultra without issues.

Feels very much like Homeworld to me, I like how you now need to have blue RU to do research along with the gold ones nice twist.

I have started to care about my units more, as they seem to level up, I am keeping them in smaller squads and rotating them round with other squads keeping them repaired etc.

Graphics and sound are lovely, very much in the feel of homeworld, love the new coloured cutscenes, but part of me would have liked them in black and white like the original ones.

Well it looks, feels and sounds like Home World which is just great. I do slightly miss being able to pause it though, it can get a bit hectic at times. Only 3 or 4 missions into it but am enjoying it a lot.

just started this up. its classic homeworld on the ground. these new "motherships" are so cool.

slightly miffed about only getting 2560*1440 resolution. looking to see if i can edit some files to go higher.

edit: found this works perfectly https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidem...homeworld_deserts_of_kharak_does_not_support/

I tried this and it still "boxed" my window in 1900 x 1200 res, but I could move the mouse outside of these borders.

Will let this rest in my Steam library for a bit...

I'm up to mission 6 now. Is it possible to keep more power in the carriers subsystems? It seems if I go above 1 currently it gives me a heat warning then resets itself after a short period. I'd prefer to set it and forget about it

As you go through the missions and find more small artifacts your points and temperature threshold go up.

I am getting low fps: 30-40s which is rather annoying, and changing the settings does help at all. Is fine in Skirmish games, the current map in single player just kills it.
Seems its a issue a few people are having. 40-50% Gpu usage seems to be the issue. Hopefully theyll fix that soon.

anyone else stuck on the mission where you have to stop the resource harvesters? beladin dune sea I think its called. I kill the 3 harvesters and then get an objective to "destroy the gaalsien security patrol" but have killed every unit on the map and been round and round 3 times even restarted from a previous save and still cant complete the objective

is this game any good ? I used to be into C&C, total annihilation etc would this game suit my era !
thanks in advance peeps.

Annoyed as appear to have broken mission 5 and will need to restart, wants me to kill all enemy forces, and I have done, there is a red ping on the map, but this was where I came across a production carrier by mistake and killed it.
