Hose pipe ban?

I've sort of been expecting a hosepipe ban here, bad news as we've got a brand new lawn so it needs lots of water. Still it rained so much at the start of the year we're probably ok for a while.

Can't be far off given how little rain we have had. Am watering the garden like crazy at the moment. Will have to switch to buckets if this comes into effect.
Reservoir levels and rainfall figures

From 1-31 May, rainfall across the Thames catchment was 109% of the 134 year historic monthly average, with 59.9mm.

Reservoir storage on the 31st May 2018 for London as a whole was 97% (Thames Valley 98% & Lee Valley 94%) and Farmoor storage was 98%.

Thames water certainly dont seem to agree!

How on earth do we get to this point in the 21st century given the wet get periods and flooding we do get the rest of the year??
Because most of that rain and flood water runs off or soaks into the ground, and flows out to sea. It doesn't stay in already-full reservoirs.

Yup - We're inspecting theirs right now... Plus they just issued loads of statements to all the newspapers.

If we get a hosepipe ban I'm not sure on where I stand with my well which I never use but looks to be perfectly functional. I could put the pump I use to clear out the pond into the well and effectively make my own hosepipe without drawing on water from the mains.

Been watering my lawn 3 times a week for the past month or so. Hopefully we get some rain soon.

And live on an island surrounded by water :D

I don't know why we can't start doing more desalination tbh.

I agree.

But it costs too much and water isn't a important enough :p

I've also just had a new lawn laid - and my suntrap of a garden hit 33°C+ yesterday.

I've been "forgetting" to turn the sprinklers off every night for a month.

I pity the fools brave enough to try and fit water meters to houses up here.
I get some idiot here wanting to fit one he will be leaving pronto with said contraption shoved up his arse.

We managed to buy a house that had no water or electricity meter installed and was off the known grid (except for gas). My wife figured it would be in our interest to be honest and have them installed. Fool.

Not watered the lawn but the pond gets a top up each week, so that would have to be a couple of buckets + shade to slow water loss.

Lawn went from lush green to now brown hay.. the watering can gets used for the flowering plants to help the bee/pollinators..

May give the car (white) a quick wash this pm as it’s been a week at least.. should see out until the normal British weather returns.

Yes how backwards would it be to pay for something on a consumption basis?!

Had a text from Severn tent advising not to use sprinklers, apparently the issue isn't the reservoir levels, it's the speed they can treat it.

I'll just keep quiet about the hundreds of litres I use for my aquarium :p

I've been watering the garden every night so far, need to wash the car at some point as well.
Also no chance I would choose to have a water meter fitted.
