Hose pipe ban?

If I cut down on use in the garden plants will die. I can't really drink less, we don't have a bath so shower anyway. Toilet policy is usually leave number ones be. I only wash the car once a month or so.
All this and the water reservoirs are all still well stocked. At least months left with this weather but I can't see it continuing that long.

I remember 1976 they said that wouldn't last long either..I'm hoping it doesn't as I've had enough of the heat now and prefer the cold vs sun

Have low pressure intermittently in area of Cambridge, early evening; Anglia Water confirmed they are juggling water between depleted storage systems/towers to try and maintain it.
Not sure what their obligation is, in terms of pressure (as it tends to zero) and whether farmers are the culprits.

;) I just want a shower ...
...well the farmers could offer a communal shower underneath one of those appliances irrigating the fields.

It's just the selfish/braindead people who ruin it for everyone else (like most things). Saw a post on a gardening facebook group earlier (yes my life is that exciting :p) someone was watering their newly laid turf 3-4 times a day to stop it drying out. Could have waited a few weeks and let nature water it for them but no...

The turf won't root if you don't water it extensively when it's laid. New turf job otherwise .

I'm not disputing that! But why the hell would you choose to lay turf in the middle of a huge dry spell?!

Gonna be a bit screwed if we actually do end up with wide spread hose bans aren't they

They probably got it at a bargain price... (due to other people cancelling the order due to weather)

We are not running out of water they say, what they say is they can't move the water around the system quick enough. Basically they want us to stop using it to conserve their profits.

Lawn tinder dry.. I have the gazebo up to offer some shade across the day..

Washed the car at dusk - the little Karcher is great - it's less water rate than the hose pipe connecting it just more force. Waves of black across the car  but clean for a couple of weeks.

The koi in the pond are covered by livestock exemption typically but that's only losing via evaporation - unlike some koi owners with posh drum filters etc that self wash :D

Though you can only fill the pond if not doing so would result in loss of said livestock, not just because it's a bit low.

I save over £100+ a year on water meter but the savings depend on how many occupants and the rateable value of your property.

If you want to stand bollock naked, in a field caked in cow ****, showering in water laced with agricultural substances, while half the neighbourhood looks on from the queue... I'm sure I could arrange something.

Basically they want us to stop using it to conserve their profits.
Dunno how you came to that conclusion - We bill you based on what you use, not what you don't use!!

Is there a plan for everyone to be moved over to water meters, similarly to the plan for everyone to be on smart meters for electric.

Think it depends on your water company. Up here it's just new builds are put on meter or if you request one.

But yeah, everyone should be. There are some serial water wasters about. Like down my street there is a bloke who will water garden for hours every day with hose, along with sprinkler on for hours. Then the jet washing the patio every week and the cars every other day or so. It's all water water water.

I'm confused, if he pays his water bill where is the issue. Do people have the same feelings about serial gas or electricity wasters. I mean the nerve having the heating on all day or your pc on all day.
As far as i'm concerned i can use as much water as i like, if the supplier needs to increase delivery than charge a bit more and fix it so we don't have this issue.
