How about a Linux gallery?

Just got arch installed on my laptop and wireless working - it's taken me a few days to get this to work due to my acer being stupid when it comes to wireless!

At least Arch has the decency to include the acer-wmi module needed in the kernel. Man i love Arch, not just compared to bloatware like Ubuntu but compared to windows.

Anyway on to my screenshot.

Trying to show everything, from fluxbox with Influx theme, Industrial GTK theme and conky

Can't for the life of me find where i got the .conkyrc from annoyingly!

Heres what i am using at the mo

Here's my little setup:

Distro: Arch64
WM: xmonad (with xmobar on the top)

It can perhaps be a little intimidating to begin with xmonad, but after a while you can unplug you mouse and work efficiently :)

I've been looking into tiling WM's and i'm stumbling on 2 things:

I would love to get rid of my mouse to use the comp, but you still need it for navigating gui programs

Also say you have firefox open and are halfway down reading a page then you open a terminal window, this then resizes your ff page and you are reading a different part of the page.

Until i get used to these things i will probably be sticking with my fluxbox install

If you like xmonad then you should have a look at DWM or awesome/amazing windows managers.

What I tend to do is to have my firefox on a different virtual desktop from my work terminals. Im sure you could lock the size of firefox so whrn you spawn a new terminal it does not resize it for you.

This has got a lot to do with how you're working. Normally it might just be better to open a new workspace and then open terminal. With xmonad you can also press mod(alt)+L/H to resize each window. But I have to admit, tiling WM really shines when you're using two or more monitors.

Dj Jestar - what panel are you running at the bottom of the screen? I have been going through a few recently and have yet to find one i really like. It looks a little like fbpanel to me, but without the 'boxes' drawn around the items in the taskbar...

Ohh.. Just the thread I was looking for! Been after themes for my Ubunu install on my lappy for ages! I hate the default ones.. Which are the best ones or peoples favs?

Finally fairly happy with the layout/features. I basically copied the my favourite bits from some of the others posted here. For anyone who is interested, its openbox running on ubuntu 8.04, running both pypanel and fbpanel and using xcompmgr to give the drop shadow effects. Thanks to -RB- for the background.
