How are you finding pub numbers since the smoking ban?

I know there was a lot of concern about the smoking ban driving away people from pubs, but how has everyone found the crowd levels in pubs now the ban is actually in place? Are there more people, the same, or fewer?

I've been to three pubs since Sunday and I have to say each one was rammed full of people. I was particularly surprised at the crowd levels in the World's End in Camden last night - somewhere I thought would be most affected - with it being impossible to sit down and many people drinking standing up. I don't know about other places but the pubs I've been to seem to be more full since the ban came into effect.

A smoker colleague of mine said she went to a bar last night and it was the same. She also said she was really glad people weren't smoking in the bar since it was far more enjoyable without the fumes.

Maybe the small village pubs may experience some problems but there are a lot of people who seem to be enjoying drinking without smoke wafting over.

To be honest i have barely even noticed, the smoke never bothered me anyway and i cant tell much difference.

One good thing though is that the pubs now have more space, as people are now actually using the area's which were previously non smoking.

I was on a bus home and it goes past a load of pubs, one of them was literally empty inside from what I saw, but it had a huge croud of people outside all smoking.

Our local actually seemed much busier on a Wednesday night than before. That was good but the gig I went to last night in Manchester was even better that no one was smoking around me.

I cant wait til you lot get winter amd your smokers go out side and freeze there ballsoff :D :p

Or winters arnt as cold as yours so people wont freeze as muich

Its entertaining at the moment as its not stopped raining for about a month :p

Well about the same in most ones.
The queens tap is heaving though, as the landlord is still leatting people smoke all the hardcore smokers go there.

I miss my occasional cigar a bit, started to drink tequilla when I want a cigar and it works out quite nicely.

I went out Wednesday and the pub was full.
We sat facing the outside smoking den and it seemed to be one man going out every 20 minutes.
I'm looking forward to my first gig in a smoke free pub this saturday and seeing how my smoking band members/roadies react.

My local still lets people smoke so no change. Not been out proper yet, but we usually go to an old worldy real ale place thats like someones living room, cant remember if the landlord smokes but if he does, i cant see the ban effecting me there. :p

My local where I drink and work has been dead since the ban.
Having to go outside when its cold, damp and windy outside seems to be putting off a lot of people at the moment.
I imagine once it dries up a bit it will soon get busier again.

The unfortunate side effect of the no-smoking ban, is that when (if) the weather's nice, you can't or don't want to sit outside because of all the smokers. :(

I live in Wales, we've had the smoking ban for a few months. I live in Swansea which have plenty of pubs and every weekend they all seem to be full. Smoking ban is the best thing this goverment has done.

Boo Hoo. Never happy some people are they?

When I was back in Wales over easter some of the pubs were busier than I'd ever seen them...

I've not been out much in England since the ban, but the one I go to for my pub quiz has been non-smoking for ages, and still pulls in the punters.

That will probably change when he gets handed a £2,500 fine though ;)

I can't believe landlords are letting people smoke. They'll get fined or closed down, that simple. Their stupid Communist mindset won't work.
