Hi - its not a big thing to find out, I went here and entered my post code and phone number and apparently (on the llist to the right) talk talk and aol can offer me services but everything else cant - I see then it says services for llu? that right?

also at the moment Im with tiscali (about to change to bt :p) but I was wondering about this llu in my area - is it isp specific or not? and will I be able to get more than what I currently get (2mb) with tiscali?

ok I just went here and typed in my downstream attenuation (7.5) and these are the results:

does that mean I can get 8mb? or no?

Hi there, your line attenuation (7.5DB) is very good; lower is better. See where it says "dslMAX" 8128? Divide that number by 1024 to see how many megabits you should get - 7.9's close enough. Your line is very good, so you should connect to the exchange at 8mbit.

I've no experience with any of those broadband providers though, so can't help you there :(

(about to change to bt :p)

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

does that give you any idea what i think of BT? avoid at all costs. they are a terrible isp. don't be fooled by the "unlimited" allowance claims and shiny free hardware. there are plenty of other decent isps who can provide a far superior service over a normal BT phoneline. :D

LLU is ISP-specific (though some run a wholesale operation similar to BT Wholesale), and 8128kbps is full rate.

really a star wars link? damn I must have been more tired last night than I thought lol....

ok so I will speak to talk talk tomorrow, I need to see what sort of speeds I can get... I done a line check from aol yesterday - although those results say aol do llu speeds in my area, their website says I dont even have internet lol.... well my bt activates on the 27th... I can just cancel it :S but I really dislike tiscali... they are terrible. they say no caps on my bb and yet I've phoned them so many times to complain about my speeds.

I think I will check out talk talk... I dont like the idea of using aol - their customer service is more rubbish than getting a conversation with a amiga 500.

I just went to that link (sam knows best) and entered my phone number, apparently talk talk and aol both offer llu. what will that mean? they can offer me the best service?

If you can go with Be*, I recommend the Be* Pro package:
Static IP, Unlimited Downloads (really!), 2.5mbps upload, 24mbps download.

I am with Be*, and I get about 6mbps with them (had 3 with AOL). Pings to UK-based servers on CS:S are about 10ms (seriously, pings are a thing of the past).
The support is great, just, perfect ISP tbh.

See if you can get Be at: http://bethere.co.uk/

OMG some tech support people are ****ing idiots.

I cant get a speed check with aol because of something called a "cease pending" on my line. I have recently ordered bt (as you know) not sure if that has anything to do with it but here are the notes aol told me:

line status = cease pending
note: there is currently a cease pending or in progress against this line, a provision order can only be placed, after completion of the cease order which is due to occur by the 19th of september 2007.

they gave me this number to speak to bt wholesale (ommmm naughty as only isp's are allowed to have this lol)

0800 169 9576

anyway bt wholesale said for me to quote a cbu number to bt retail.... in que for them now but they dont really know what Im talking about. smashing stuff.

I checked and cant get be* in my area :(

also does anyone know what 21cn means??? :S I get it in 2011.... not that I will be living here by then but nice to know lol

edited ;) what swearing? ;)

anyway I just got off the phone to bt cos Im sick with all the transfering of calls. (hate csr's that dont take responsability of calls)

and they said it will be sorted on the 27th of december. that is the day my broadband with bt was meant to be ready that I ordered. that has now been cancelled. would that really sort the issue?

There are loads of options other than those three - the BT that's available is BT Wholesale, of which BT (Retail) are then just one of dozens of ISPs using the same infrastrucure to connect you to their network.

So? LLU isn't the be all and end all, most ISPs don't have an LLU operation at all. It doesn't mean that you can't get a service from them, and I certainly wouldn't recommend AOL or TalkTalk, LLU or no.

Not going to happen, ever. There's no such thing as unlimited downloads. The best option will be an Enta reseller (no idea who flavour of the month is right now), then you pay based on how high you want your cap.

It's the second option. You will not find a consumer ISP running on BT Wholesale that will let you download however much you want.
