My spare 500GB Samung drive has now been connected to my main PC. I want to format it and leave it with just one main 500GB partition.

However, because it USED to be a boot drive for Windows 7 on another machine, it shows within Disk Management as being 2 partitions - 101MB and 465.66GB.

How on earth do I remove this tiny partition?

If windows doesn't let you right click and delete due to it being marked as a system partition, then download and boot something like gparted to do it outside the OS.

If you are a little unsure what you are doing, then unplug all drives but the one you want to format before booting, that way you cant remove anything important.

Hi mate,

The best way of doing this i have found is to go to the command prompt and type "diskpart", then type "list disk" it will then list all the disks that are connected to your machine. Find out what disk the 500gb hd you just put in is. For example if its disk 2 type "select disk 2" it will then tell you "disk 2 has been selected" as long as there is nothing on the HD you require if there is back it up of course now type "clean all" this will clean the whole hd for you. When its complete type in "create partition primary" it will then create the partition for you. Then type "format fs=ntfs" This will the format the drive for you and when its complete your good to go

Hope this kinda helped if you get stuck let me know

good luck

Liam

Sorry to hear your HD is dead after all that :(. Are you deffo sure it dead though? Have you tried running a disk check on it or use the manufactors online utility to test the drive?

Hey guys, thanks, but don't worry! Had barely anything on it, and is about to be sent off for RMA...
