How do you get your grocery shopping?

Get it delivered from Tesco. Only problem is they tend to give you bread that's almost stale. But it beats having to traipse round the store.

Been happy with them and last months order was messed up (probably my fault) and they quickly sorted it out, no issues at all just helpful. Personally hate the sausages though, but the rest is good.

How is it that I didn't know this company is in my own town! Going to grab a few samples from them for next week and get the boxes from after Christmas.

Veg box you won't get unless in Bristol. But there's loads of schemes all over the country I have a choice of about three farms offering boxes. I'm using

Shame this company doesn't deliver to me. I've seen a couple of neighbours use Riverford but they seem pretty expensive compared.

Do you tip the delivery driver? They are paid pittance, so if you think that they have done a cracking service (beyond the call of duty); reward them ;).

Lol are you serious? I mean i often help them get it out the van, although the last 2 guys have rung the doorbell with the crates at their feet :o, but tipping didn't even cross my mind. £3-£5 is enough as it is out of my pocket.

he is a supermarket delivery driver, i'll leave it up to you to work out whether he is serious or not :p

I used to walk to ASDA, about 20 minutes away, every 2 or 3 weeks. Now I go to Tesco (less than 5 minutes walk) twice a week. I work in a ASDA so often pick up bits and bobs after my shift there as well, but can never be bothered to do a full shop after a shift. The 10% at ASDA is nice as well.

:D Nail head.

Na, I don't expect tips but it is nice when you get one. We have some tippers who tip everyone, and then there are some who only tip certain drivers. We've got one regular customer and it's only me and one other guy who gets tipped by her, I suppose we just offer a certain level of customer service that other drivers don't give her. Though, one bloke won't tip me but he does another driver. I've tried everything to get that £2 off him but he's not having any of it.

I go beyond the bare minimum, and happy to do that without reward but getting a tip is very nice and we remember the tippers ;).

Insider tip - If I were to use the homedelivery service, I wouldn't buy frozen goods.

Its not allowed for Asda emloyees to accept tips, Im sure this applies to their delivery drivers as well.

I dont get why people pay tips in the UK, everyone should be earning at least minimum wage, and supermarkets pay around an extra £1 ph than the min wage.

How did you find these places? I would live to get meat delivered as supermarket stuff is crap.

Why not? I mean I don't think I actually buy that many frozen goods - normally buy meat fresh and then freeze it, but occasionally buy say peas frozen and stuff. Just curious more than anything else...

Wow, isn't it the season to be jolly!

In all seriousness there is an entire thread around somewhere about tipping, and it all depends on cost convenience...

I mean, technically, let's say I am earning about £6/ph. It takes me all of about 5 minutes to do my shop online - shopping lists are amazing, and then probably 10 minutes to unload my shopping when it arrives. So the cost to me in time is about £1.50
I then tend to pay about £3 for the delivery.
So total cost to me of getting the delivery in time is £4.50.

Say I go into the shop - half hour there, half hour back + one hour to do the physical shopping. = 2 Hours = £12 of time.

I'm happy to the tune of about £7.50...

Can't see why giving them £1-2 is really a bad thing.

As stated I actually don't tip my delivery men. But tipping a shopping delivery man, does actually make sense to me in some ways...

Once a month or more I walk to large tesco about 15-20mins then catch a taxi back at £4-5. I buy washing powder and toilet rolls and cleaning products in the largest available sizes, because they cheaper and you buy less frequently that way. Other things i buy during the big shop:

frozen oven chips
pasta sauces
pasta
canned foods, beans and peas
oil
bottle water in bulk, pack of six large ones
stuff like that

What i don't buy is meats, frozen foods/meals. I try not to freeze any foods because i prefer to eat fresh. I do have some frozen chips and some burgers and spicy chicken breasts in my freezer, but that is exception.

I try to go to M&S on the way home from work or tesco and purchase non frozen foods and then cook them on the night. I eat a lot of meals from m&s all non frozen, curry, lasagne, breaded chicken breasts (make good burgers) and stuff like that.

There is usually not that much food in my house because i live by myself and if i don't freeze it i waste it. So this is the most cost effective way for me and i can eat nice fresh food.

I also eat at least once a week, chinese takeway, pie and chips takeaway, sometimes pizza takeaway.

I go to a local shop on a pretty much daily basis. Reading this makes me think I should try delivery - I probably spend rather a lot more that the delivery charges on things I don't need! :D

If I recall correctly, I've had three customers that have come to my van and offered a hand with taking it from the van to their house. That's in 5 or 6 months of doing the job. So, thank you for doing that, it's very much appreciated.
What I hate is lugging up heavy shopping up to a top floor of a tenement and then being met by a big burly lad who doesn't even offer to help. Fine, if it's a little old lady I don't mind doing it but common decency states that you should offer to help if you can. We only have to take it to the block door in a tenement, we are under no obligations to take it up to your floor.

your paid to empty your van to my door, don't see why I should help get it from your van, wtf how lazy are you no wonder no one tips

The produce is good. Cost wise I haven't worked it out. I need a smaller meat box though. Far far to much.

£80
Brisket Roasting Joint - Weight: 1kg
Brisket Roasting Joint - Weight: 1kg
Leg Of Mutton Cut - Weight: LMC 1kg
Small Chicken - Size: Small (min 1.4kg)
Rump Steaks - 2
Chicken Breasts - Pack of: 2 Breasts
Coarse Cut *Beef Mince
field&flower Burgers - 4
Coarse Cut Lamb Mince
Diced Lamb
Pork Spare Ribs - 2 racks
Pork Sausages - 6
Chicken Thighs - Pack of: 4 Thighs

Weights are usually 1.2-1.4kilos on the joints so a fair bit over.

Veg box £8 - roughly, changes week to week, this week.
10-15 potatoes
6 carrots
Bag of stir fry (fennel, sprouting broccoli and other stuff)
2 beetroot
2 leeks
Chestnut mushrooms normal supermarket size punnet
2 onions

Then one a month get the gourmet bag, which this week contained £4.50 (I think that's way over priced, where the veg box I think is pretty good value)
Turmeric
Ginger
Garlic
Lemons
Chillies
Thyme

Fantastic thanks! :)

Will definitely look into this.

As for me, Sainsbury's once or twice a week. Doesn't bother me really.

Been more than happy with them bar the sausages. Not my cuppa. Far to fine a mince. But other than that fine. Again there's a fair few meat box schemes and as it comes frozen not limited to area. However feild&flower is the only I found where you can select the meat you want. The others just have fixed or random boxes, but there are hundreds of farmers to choose from most are more expensive, maybe better meat though. Saying that I might try another place out after Christmas.

Also http://thecornishfishmonger.co.uk/fresh_fish_boxes/monthly_fish_boxes do fish/seafood boxes, which I would like to try. But would need to cut meat box by at least 50% and probably still have stuff leftover.
