I'm currently having a debate (not an argument) with the wife about who makes the best porridge!

She 'cheats' and sticks the oats, sugar and milk into a pyrex bowl and stuffed it in the microwave Stirring occasionally. Making what I describe as "Sloppy Milky Oats"

Me.. I do mine how I was tought by my Scottish Great Aunt, okay I put Sugar in rather than salt! but its done in the traditional way, Oats, Sugar and Milk in a pan on the stove and stand there stirring it constantly whilst it thickens, stopping it burning to the pan (my wife's main bugbear as I've done that a few times!) My Porridge is thick enough to stand a spoon in and (as my Dad used to say) "it sticks too your ribs!" :D

So my question is this...

Do you slop the ingredients into a bowl in the microwave?
Stir the ingredients in a pan the traditional way?
Or God forbid, open a packet off 'Ready-Break' etc and follow the distructions?? ;)

Oats So Simple packets in the microwave. They taste good and only take two minutes. Who has time to be faffing about make porridge the traditional way? I don't.

oat so simple pack in a bowl, pour on boiling water and stir.. then add a lil bit of milk (mostly to cool it down) and eat

I used to use the microwave until very recently but got sick of it overflowing! I now do it on the hob, stirring frequently, the consistency is much smoother like you say. I have a small handful of dried fruit and a chopped up banana in mine :)

I use the cheapo Morrison's value oats too. Non of this posh packet stuff for me :D

If its for the three of us, in a pan as God intended. If its just me I just throw some oats so simple into a bowl. I use less milk than the instructions say, if its not sticking to the top of your mouth you are doing it wrong !

Oats in bowl with milk, put in microwave for 3 minutes
Get a shower and change
Re-heat for ~15 seconds
Add honey and anything else (like fruit, nuts, raisins)

Milk and outs in a pan and nuke it. I don't like it too thick or too thin, I leave it to stand foe a few minutes once cooked which seems to make the oats softer than usual in the mic.

I had oats for the first time in many years this morning because I didn't have any bread for some toast! My wife is Scottish and when she made me oats it was horrible, she put what tastes like half a cup of salt in it, for me its sugar all the way, but I like it a little bit milky and not like you and her say (spoon standing up in it)

40g of tesco value porridge oats, 200g of milk
2 mins in the microwave.

No sugar etc

Tastes like glue, but it gets me through the day.

White's Porridge Oats - half a mug of oats with one and a half of milk, into saucepan, heat with an occasional stir till ready.

Sometimes have a banana sliced into the bowl before adding porridge. :)
