how do you make your porridge?

I've tried a few brands and Quaker porridge oats has been my porridge of choice for years. The oat flakes are the right size.
I add honey. I prefer the hard opaque waxy (non runny) honey and let it melt in the porridge. I then add some banana or dried apricots.

Other times I'll do regular sugar and salt.

Soak a mix of normal porridge oats and a handful of "jumbo" oats (for a bit more texture) in water with a pinch of salt. Overnight is good, or even 10 minutes makes a difference I feel. Gentle heat on stove, add milk to desired consistency, slightly runny rather than being able to stand a spoon in it that is. Don't always get it spot on but when it's good it's very creamy without being too heavy.

No one has mentioned adding whisky to the porridge yet, tut tut.

A couple of shots in the porridge, then a couple more in your coffee, helps cure the side effects of too much whisky and irn-bru the night before.

It has to have a pinch of salt in it, and dark brown sugar stirred through it, is the best accompaniment. Darker the sugar, the better.

Jordans Conservation Grade Porridge, simmer in milk for 5-10 minutes with a pinch of salt, turn the heat off and stick a lid on the pan for 5-10 minutes again. Either serve as is or with some honey/syrup. Top stuff. :D

I'm surprised at the amount of people using instant packets. They're so sugary you may as well be eating Coco Pops or something.

I just do the 1 cup of oats, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of water. I like a pinch of salt for texture (not too early else it goes a bit odd) and then a drizzle of golden syrup. Quite often chop half a banana in and some chopped dates if we have them.

Having said all this the girlfriend normally makes it for me/us whilst I'm in the shower. Bless :p

I'm intrigued to try soaking overnight. Could you soak 1 cup of oats in 1 cup of water and 1 cup of milk overnight? Would it just be ready to warm through in the morning? Will it absorb al that liquid overnight? Might save some time in the morning rush...
