How do you Think of a Gamer Name?

I came up with GTAMADDOG when I signed up to some GTA forums back when San Andreas was released. I liked GTA and then I took a random character's name. I've used it for most forums since even though I'm not in to GTA as much as I was back then.

I use the name Pariah for multiplayer Steam games. For that I just scanned through my music library and happened upon a Lamb of God song titled Pariah. I don't like Lamb of God that much, but I like the name and it's stuck since.

i have a couple gamer names, Diplexbullet was a random name from xboxlive and so was Cheekyhalfling. My main pc names are Galadorn or Galadion, Galadorn being the name of a city on the movie willow and Galadion because the name Galadorn was normally taken.

My original one was 'The Dark Stranger', which is the title of an old D&B tune by Boogie Times Tribe.

I then changed it to what my name is here, though I somehow spelled it wrong when I originally set up my BF2 account. Everyone should know who they are.

For BF3 and Planetside 2, I have had to change it again to PapaLa2aru, as some ******* has nicked PapaLazaru.

Mine is always Pegasus with clan tags/paintball tags at the beginning. (Pegasus after Pegasus bridge)

FPS's its usually xGBHxPegasus (GBH my paintball team, used to be BOB, hence the forum name).
MMO's its Jessicaa (after Jessica alba, used to be Jessicaalba as a joke in WoW untill blizz made me change it)

My friend has a theory, If you take the first two letters from your first name and the first two from your sirname to get your gamer name.

So his is : "Sico", while mine would be "Maki"..

Mines BatterdStarfish...

...Because i always get my butt handed to me hense the starfish...

Thought it was quite poetic.

I've had the same one for about 15yrs and it's only recently (last year or two) that it's started to be taken in some new games. Same as my forum nick, and it's from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. Windle was a character in the books and I was reading them back in the day and it was the first thing that came to mind, stuck with it ever since.

Mine's Quibit, which is taken from Qubit, a two-state quantum-mechanical system such as the polarization of a single photon: here the two states are vertical polarization and horizontal polarization. In a classical system, a bit would have to be in one state or the other, but quantum mechanics allows the qubit to be in a superposition of both states at the same time, a property which is fundamental to quantum computing.

Just choose something geeky :)

Chose mine after getting addicted to CS. The name before ColdAsIce was FinalConflict but I didn't like it much so changed it.

Then 2 or 3 years of growing up in CS and realising it's a little lame to call yourself ColdAsIce, I shortened it to CAI, which I still use as I cannot be bothered creating a new name.

Started life many moons ago as N3ON back playing TFC, then sometime after the Matrix was released, this got shortened to N3O and was always taken, no surprises. Then I went through a phase of drinking a lot of Kronenbourg 1664, so it developed again to: nEo-1664. Which is what I still use today.

On some forums, I use my name NealR, but that's just a make up of my real name and initial :)

I was randomly called Buster2312 by my father when he signed us up for AOL dial-up back in 1996ish... sort of stuck. Usually use Crispy on most things now if its available as it is a nickname.

Edit: he called me Buster as when I was born I looked like Buster Bloodvessel apparently :p

I stole my name.

Got lent/given a character for a few months while a friend went away, he went from being an unknown to one of the most known/hated characters and my friend didn't want the play as that name ever again.

Mine is actually from a Milkyway advert in the early 2000's

Little Alien guy was called ZG, Can't remember where I used it first but I think the Advert was on at the time.

Was Skyline before that as I was obsessed with the Nissan Skyline as a young un.

Nickname given to me by a mate, kinda stuck for a bit back then so used it in games as well as never had one previously. Not sure where it came from either as don't even have a D in my name..

Usually its ok getting it, if its taken (which has only been once or twice) I just change it to PaulyD.uk or PaulyDuk and job done.

As per some of the suggestions in the thread

Middle name - pet name = James Smokey
Middle name - road name = James Rutland

Or first two letters if each name - Pasm

Think I will stick with PaulyD

The first game I ever played that needed one was the original Call of Duty. I chose "Howitzer" as I too was clueless but thought a giant WW2 cannon couldn't go far wrong...

When I find it's already taken I add my RL knickname "Bug" (for HowitzerBug) and that's what I find I use most of the time now.

I never bothered trying to think up anything better lmao!

For the past few years I've just gone by Nimdok (a character from Harlan Ellison's "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream") as it's rarely taken and it's from one of my favourite books. In the rare occasion that it is used (i.e. on Steam, XBL, and PSN) I just go by Nimdork as my WoW guildies used to think I was a major dork and called me as such :p

Using the first 2 letters of my first and last name I'd be Miso - I'm a fan of the soup so might start using that (used Toast as my gamer name many years ago) :p

I have had 3, G4cE, McCoy and Enzo Smithers.

G4cE was my 'leet' name when i first started gaming in the 90's, completely unused these days but dunno howe to change it on the forum lol.

McCoy I used in any WW2 game, after reading a book about a captain McCoy in the Vietnam war, amazing book and inspired me to use his name lol.

Enzo Smithers came about as I had made my wow char called Enzo after Enzo Ferrari (i like road ferrari's lol) and added the Smithers as my surname is Smith, and my brother was called Benjo Smithers online, so whenever we played together, it was Enzo and Benjo Smithers rocking the game

lol :(
