How do you warn other about mobile speed cameras?

I used to do it, not sure if I could be bothered these days. On the basis that if caught the general consensus is that you'll be treated as if you're obstructing the course of justice. That and the fact that most of my driving is on unfamiliar roads.

I like my SP30 free license, but we all make mistakes and there have been more than a few occasions where I thought I'd been papped, so I'm not sure that the "well you shouldn't be speeding then" argument holds much water.

If I bother, I flash and thumbs down. Cant remember the last time I did this though.

I always flash and wave if there is an obstruction or accident or anything.

Flashy headlights and hand signal in car. However, i am wary of doing this tehse days as you WILL be prosecuted if caught.

I had someone flash me only the other day warning me of a speed van and was very grateful - the Mrs just looked at me and asked what he is doing!

I guess after a while you just grow up and realise that a clean license is actually quite valuable. It's not that hard to keep within the acceptable limits.

If you value your license so much (from growing up) then you'd rigidly stick to the limits, not the acceptable ones, no?

Which seems to me an admittance that speed traps are there to generate revenue.

If they were there for safety to encourage drivers to slow down, then surely informing other motorists of the trap would be helping the police, not obstructing them? :p

They've been known to hide in the bushes to catch people.

So does this mean if I spot a camera on the way to work, then tell people in the office where it is, I'm breaking the law?

No

This is only relevant if you were warning other drivers after driving past, specifically if you were warning people who were speeding. If they weren't speeding then you were either misusing your headlights or not in proper control of your vehicle (flashing/waving etc). It's up to you to ensure you say that the proof lies with them to prove you were warning speeding drivers. You will have a criminal record if found guilty, the punishment, like we've seen with recent PCoJ is serious enough to make you think twice if it's really worth it.

Everyone speeds to a degree. The acceptable limit is the limit + 10% (or something like that), and if you keep within that you're not going to get the attention of the law.

I feel for people getting points for doing something very minor like 34 in a 30, as everyone's done it - even without realising, your speed can creep up if you're not concentrating.

But I don't see it as my job to look after anyone else on the road.

yes i do

must admit i haven't really seen any for a while though

the cameras are 'supposed' to be there to make people think about their speed . surely like conscript says , im just helping

id think twice about it if like someone else mentioned they where flying through a 30 zone. but doing 80/90 on an empty dual carriageway when the police are sat on a bridge or hiding in a field then most the danger comes from them panicing when they see the van
