How do you warn other about mobile speed cameras?

don't get why so many people are bothered about stopping people who are breaking the law get caught. Speed limits are set at a limit for a reason and that's safety.
That explains all the safety cameras outside schools.
Oh wait, there isn't a single one in existence in front of a school, what could they all be for?

When mobile cameras start parking next to well known blackspots instead of the 40 to 50 transitions, then you have a valid argument. Until then they are purely a cash generating mechanism.

FWIW I no longer deliberately speed, but the existence of speed cameras has no bearing on that and never did.

How do you get to this higher state of being, teach me the ways of never ever ever speeding, please!

Actual LOL

don't get why so many people are bothered about stopping people who are breaking the law get caught. Speed limits are set at a limit for a reason and that's safety. You flashing you lights etc at someone may make them slow down for a camera but won't stop them speeding again once they're past it meaning they're still a danger on the road for 99% of the time someone isn't flashing them. If you don't flash them and they got caught for speeding as they should they will get banned and taken off the road making it safer for everyone else.

Bit extreme example but just think the person you've flashed to slow down kills some kids speeding through a 20-30mph zone the following day, would make you feel a little guilty for helping them stay on the road.

I've never read such utter rubbish in my entire life. :D

I will usually wait until I'm a bit further down the road and will flash oncoming cars. However I judge the drivers first, e.g pimply teen in his 206 trying to impress the ladies, enjoy your ticket.

What's the difference between flashing or shout out the window "CAMERA!"

Would one still be prosecuted for obstructing an officer

I am trying to get my head round how it is a crime to prevent others to do so.

Or would it be better if one say "SLOW DOWN" ?

Is that the difference? One is warning the presence of a police officer, one is asking someone not to speed.

I blow the Horn of Gondor.

LOL

Reading this thread and boom, almost spat out my tea.

As for the speed cameras, people always flash their lights around here. Police really don't like it and if you get caught they will do you!
Lorry drivers are the best, they just don't care and flash away.

I don't really get it either. But then when it comes to this kind of thing the standard law doesn't really apply in the same way.

For example, speed cameras cannot be 100% reliable. There are many cases where the cases have been overturned due to them being wrongly operated for example - yet when you are caught with one it's considered absolutely concrete in a court of law.

Surely if you're going to allow something like that to stand you have to allow things like lie detectors? I mean they're "almost" correct all of the time as well! :p

It's utterly bonkers.

Flashing lights on and off.. Not high- low

As i found out in some stupid cars, this isn't easy as there is a dial near the door.. Hate that

As mentioned I use Waze so hopefully someone has already driven past that sneaky cop in the bushes and notified the other Waze users.

edited: for getting my facts wrong. doh !

It's weird isn't it, that by flashing your lights and helping somebody not break the law you become a criminal.

A bit like persuading somebody carrying a knife or gun to put it down before the police arrive. Would I get nicked for this?

On a side note, watched Brit Cops or one of those traffic cop shows. They pulled over some thai bloke who was doing 105mph at his fastest, was doing 70 or 80 through the 40 zone roadworks. The cop let him off, I was so fuming I threw my dinner on the floor. It's a joke someone gets let off for that. Police are a joke.

The cop didn't let him off, he was charged with speeding and it went to court as it was over the limit required for a fixed penalty. It didn't do any good as at the end it advised he was caught again two weeks later doing over 100mph and didn't turn up to court for either case.

I think the fixed penalty limits are fairly rough? I've received a fixed penalty for a similar speed. After the officer had decided on a fixed penalty I even suggested it was probably close to the limit, and he seemed to think a fixed penalty was appropriate.

Ok, I take it back, I just watched the same part again on iPlayer and I did miss the part about the voiceover saying his fate would be decided in court.

I am pretty sure 25mph and above over the limit can no longer be dealt with by a fixed penalty.

Since when? I got a fixed penalty for more than 25 over the limit about 6 months ago.

Must have been about a year ago I was reading up on pepipoo after I thought I had been caught by a camera van. I suspect a lot will still give tickets detailing a simple exceeding the xx speed limit rather than detailing an exact figure as it must save a lot of paper work but plenty of cases where people have went to court for 95 and above on the motorway.
