Hi everyone...

sorry for the noobish question but at the moment i have a IDE HD and i was thinking of getting a new (Bigger) SATA HD but i have heard you need a floppy disk etc to install a SATA HD.. could someone clarify this for me ?

Thanks

In XP you can only use a Floppy+F6 to add drivers if needed for your Mobo's SATA Controler (you can add files to your XP CD by Slipstreaming though), that is if you even need them.

If your running a XP-SP2 CD then you wont need the drivers for most modern Mobos, I did need drivers for my older NF2 Silicon 3112 SATA Controler.

In Vista I would say nearly all are supported inc my older NF2 Silicon 3112 SATA Controler, you can also add with a Floppy/CD or USB Stick.

Once Windows is installed you should use the proper Mobo Drivers anyhow to get best perfomance.

It is F6 and not F8.
F8 is boot menu for safe mode and other stuff.

Thanks for the quick reply... so if i have XP SP2 i won't need a floppy disk ?

ps. i don't actually have a floppy drive.. so i am really hoping i don't need one :)

You aint read above fully.

If you have a CD with XP-SP2 on it you may not need drivers (depends on Mobo' SATA Controler), if you do need drivers you can only use a Floppy+F6 or make a new XP-SP2 CD with the SATA Drivers added to it (Slipstreaming).
