how far can I push my q6600 ?

basically not ready for an upgrade yet due to $$$ :( picked up a q6600 to do me in the mean time. just wondering how far you guys reckon it will go! it will be paired with an asus p5g41t-m lx, 8gb kingston 1333, antec kuhler 620 for cooling. also will my gfx bottleneck it ? (engts450 top) thanks in advance !
 
Your GPU is definitely the weak link in the chain there, no denying that.

I'd imagine you should be able to see 3.8GHz without too much stress, mine had no problems with 3.8 on air, so with a decent closed loop like you have it should run slightly cooler.
 
ok thanks :) remeber the gpu is oc aswell ...

core clock -1024
shader clock -2000
memory clock - 2100
core voltage - 1200

you know any basic settings for say 3.2 ghz ? i would be happy with that :)

above that is where you select either auto manual or oc profile I assume I should set this to manual :)
 
I would research into ocing with your mobo, I had my q6600 @ 3.6ghz under water in a DFI X48. Manual ocing is the way to do it, then you know your mobo isn't pumping too much through the chip.
 
Just did some Googling and it turns out that a FSB is the max the P/G41 chipset will go to, so you are limited there.

They've also uploaded some screenies of BIOS pages too which would be really helpful if the hosting site were not blocked at work... Super.

Set the CPU Freq to 333 (this should net you 3GHz)
DRAM to 800 (I think that's right)
PCI Freq to 100

CPU volts can be set to something like 1.3

Think everything else can be left as auto...

Makre sure to keep the temps below about 80C on full load in IBT, you'll probably hit that well before the Vcore gets too high.
 
Any particular reason you need it overclocked? I ran mine at 3.6Ghz for around a year. I knocked it back down to 2.4Ghz and haven't noticed any difference in games or much else.

Unless you do a lot of rendering or trasncoding/encoding etc. Don't bother.

just for gaming tbh I had my e5700 @ 3.6 Ghz and the q66 is at 2.75Ghz but in MW3 the frame rate isnt as good on the q66 as it was on the e57 :\ I think 3Ghz should do it so ill try what NeverWinter suggests and get back :)

I had all sorts of problems with my Q6600 back in the day. The Asus board I had was great for clocking the Core2Duo E5xxx I had in the original build but when I upgraded to a Q6600 it just couldn't supply a stable voltage for some reason. Definintely worth researching your mobo as suggested.
 
Gotta say I found MW3 on a stock Q6600 dreadful, as soon as I oc'd it to 3.2 it ran no issues.

I'm at 400x8 think the cpu voltage is around 1.3

this,
in that pic, if you can, manually set the ram to its default speed, i used to have a similar mobo for my kids Q6600, highest i could get it was 3.0 ghz (333 x 9)
